Dark Souls II is an action role-playing video game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Games in 2014. It is the third game in the Souls series.

Plot

The protagonist receives a curse that made them become undead, and will eventually turn into a hollow, a mindless undead creature. The protagonist travels to the kingdom of Drangleic to seek help in breaking the curse.

Why It Rocks

  1. The game is still as much fun as the 1st game.
  2. Gorgeous visuals, especially in Majula.
  3. Tight controls with minus jumping.
  4. Awesome hack and slash combat with right timing.
  5. A beautiful soundtrack.
  6. Some pretty epic boss fights such as the Looking Glass Knight, The Lost Sinner, Executioner's Chariot, and the Throne Watcher and Throne Defender.
  7. A very well designed interconnected world.
  8. A lot of very fun to explore locations. Dragon Shrine is mind-blowing.
  9. Better inventory layout; everything is laid out on a grid instead of a collumn, unlike the previous game, making things quicker and easier to find.
  10. You can now equip 4 rings, with the slight tradeoff of the rings now having weight.
  11. More weapons, armors, and items than the previous game.
  12. Power Stance really changes how you can do proper dual-wield builds.
  13. The weapon imbueing system simply requires one special ore and you now longer need several different embers, ores, and blacksmiths. This also means that most weapons made from boss souls can be imbued with elements.
  14. The DLCs were pretty awesome, even is still has a problem.
  15. PvP feels way more balanced than the 1st game.

Bad Qualities

  1. Lighting feels kinda off, compared to the first game. Though this also meant more stable framerate.
  2. Can feel a bit slower paced at times.
  3. Much of the difficulty that fans loved now comes from making the player fight larger amounts of enemies at once rather than actually fighting difficult enemies, which many players felt was a cheap tactic.
  4. Because bosses were such a big draw, the game had 32 bosses compared to the previous games 21. As a result, some of the bosses are reskins of bosses from older games, and some are just not very exciting.
  5. Invincibility frames, a period when the player is invincible during an animation, were tied to an upgradable stat, as opposed to the previous games in which they were just a basic part of gameplay predetermined by the game's code. Because of this, the game becomes nearly unplayable for most playstyles until the stat is raised to around 20. This can be done relatively quickly, but it still makes the start of the game extremely annoying.
  6. You now lose maximum health upon death and need a rare and limited item to reverse it, though a ring that reduces this can be found early on.
  7. Your Estus Flask is nerfed to near uselessness at the start of the game due to only having one use and being much slower until you upgrade agility and find more estus flask shards.
  8. Soul Memory makes matchmaking more difficult to understand, unlike the Player Level system from 1 and 3.
  9. Jumping is still awkward.
  10. It was rated T for teen, so the violence was toned down.
