Deadly Strike is a beat em up video game released in 2005 exclusively for the PS2, it was released only in Europe.

Plot

Enter the toughest combat tournament on Earth as one of six lethal fighters. Using a mixture of powerful martial arts techniques, swordplay and good old-fashioned hot lead you must battle through the beautiful scenery of the Shogun's Island. Defeat hundreds of the enemy's evil minions in your struggle to reach his castle and claim victory over the other contestants.

Bad Qualities

  1. One of the main problem of this game is that the gameplay is really monotenous, since your attacks are slow and the overall gameplay of the game is extremely slow paced to the point of being really boring and being what hold back the game from being decent or even a great game.
  2. Mediocre voice acting that is annoying, and also appear only in-game, the reason why the voice acting is really annoying is because of the fact that each time you attack, the characters will constantly make a noise and it became annoying really quickly to the point that you may want to turn the sound off, this even give games with constant dialogues in-game such as Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2 a run for their money.
  3. Pretty poor graphics for a 2005 PS2 game, since they look really blurry and almost look like a late PS1 game, they also are really undetailled and overall really bland to look at, even games such as Nicktoons Unite! and Pac-Man World 3 look better than this, especially the latter, and they we're both released in 2005 too.
    • The water visuals in particular look absolutely horrendous and are even worse than some N64 games, to the point that even games like Bomberman 64 had better water visuals than this, and that game was released in 1997, 8 years before this game.
  4. You only get one life for one credit, which make the game harder for bad reasons, as well as making fake difficulty to the point of being really annoying and frustrating, especially if you had a hard time to not die in this game.
  5. The controls are rather poor, since they are stiff and a little unresponsive, this is especially noticeable with the attacks that are a little delayed, even though it isn't as bad as Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, another 2005 game that is howewer even worse than this game.
  6. The game is extremely short, lasting either 35 minutes or 1 hour, but this depend if you play with one character or the other as well.
  7. Bland soundtrack that is very generic and forgettable, and had poorly executed musics overral, in fact the music is so bland that you may forget that it's play at all, similar to M&M's Adventure.
  8. Boring combat, mostly because of the fact that the combos system is repetitive and also slow as said before, this essentially make the game pretty boring and the combat could have been better, although it isn't completely terrible since it can be fun at times.
  9. The game is really easy, especially when you get most upgrades or at least for the most parts, since the enemies doesn't even trying to attack you, even though some of them are annoying to deal with, and the attack themself are really easy to dodge.
  10. The bosses had interesting concept but the problem is that they are too easy, and feel like they we're not finished, most of them you can just spam your attacks and kill them in only 1 minute.

Good Qualities

  1. The cover art look cool and amazing.
  2. While boring, the combat can still be fun and it isn't really terrible, unlike those two games that also came out in 2005, even if the latter is also mediocre and not terrible.
  3. There's a shop where you can buy upgrades, which is helpful and can make the game way easier, and also a little better to play.
  4. The characters design are amazing and look cool, this can also be know even before you play the game since one of the characters is show in the cover art.
  5. The bosses had great concepts but unfortunately they we're poorly executed.
  6. Despite being bland, the soundtrack can be good at times and had some catchy tunes, even if they are generic.

Reception

While there is not much reviews online, the game received mixed reviews by critics and players, the game currently had a score of 2.79/5.00 (Fair) on Gamefaqs.
