Desert Bus is a game released as a part of the Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors collection.
Why It Intentionally Makes Us Wanna Get Off This Bus and Leave It Stranded in the Desert
NOTE: The game is made as a joke; all these bad qualities are intentional.
- Repetitive gameplay: All you do is drive a bus from Tuscon to Las Vegas and that's it.
- The background is just nothing. There are no vehicles aside from the bus you drive.
- The distance from Tuscon to Las Vegas is 360 millies, which takes up to EIGHT HOURS just to get there since the bus only reaches 45 mph. Yes, that's how long the bus reaches.
- After going all for eight hours, you get only one point, and you start from the beginning without any reward.
- There are no breaks. Attempting to pause the game by pressing START makes the bus honk which can be a serious problem if you needed to go to your bathroom or eat something.
- If you don't press the A button, the bus will veer and get stuck on the road; if you veer, you're towed, which it also takes real time. Say, if you veer in six hours, you will get towed for another six hours. It is easily recommended to reset the game.
- As seen in Angry Video Game Nerd's video, if you use a holder to make the A button be held, the bus will still veer, meaning that you will do nothing but sit and play for eight hours.
- The maximum points that you can get is 99, which it takes 792 hours or 33 days of continuous gameplay.
Intentional Redeeming Qualities
- This game was raised for charity named "Desert Bus for Hope", and that was raised for children's hospitals.
- Desert Bus VR is more immersive and fun compared to the Sega CD counterpart.
- The graphics are okay, only the bus is detailed while the desert and asphalt are so-so.
