Despicable Me 2 is a 2013 CGI animated spy family action-adventure comedy film. The film was directed by Chris Renaurd and Pierre Coffin and it stars with Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig, Benjamin Bratt, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove, and Pierre Coffin.

Contents Plot Now that Gru (Steve Carell) has forsaken a life of crime to raise Margo, Agnes and Edith, he's trying to figure out how to provide for his new family. As he struggles with his responsibilities as a father, the Anti-Villain League -- an organization dedicated to fighting evil -- comes calling. The AVL sends Gru on a mission to capture the perpetrator of a spectacular heist, for who would be better than the world's greatest ex-villain to capture the individual who seeks to usurp his power.

Why It's Anti-Villain The gorgeous animation is an upgrade from the previous movie. The characters are still as fun as they were before, with Gru becoming a spy member. The songs from Pharrell Williams are still great as memorable, including "Happy". The voice actors again did a great job with all the characters, especially Steve Carrell as Gru and Kristen Wiig as Lucy. Heitor Periera's score is still fantastic just like the first film. The humor is more funnier than the first one including the scene where a Minion dressed up as an firefighter imitates an firetruck by saying "Bee-doh!" over and over again. The action scenes are pretty cool and memorable to watch. Gru and Lucy being in love and getting married were heartwarming, and the song that the Minions sing. The emotional scenes are still cute to watch even when the scene where Agnes kisses Gru. The film follows very faithful to the previous one and makes some changes that work. Agnes is still the cute and lovable one we all know and love, incuding with her silly obsession with unicorns. The most funny lines: "BAH!" and "I really hate that chicken." Bad Qualities Like the last film, The scatological humor can be somewhat annoying, and the Minions are a bit overused. Margo's subplot is rather useless and ends very quickly. El Macho/Eduardo is kind of a stereotypical Mexican, which could be offensive to some, and his revelation is somewhat predictable. The scene where Agnes screamed at Kevin, the Evil Minion for seemingly damaging her fluffy unicorn toy can potentially be earbleeding and is extemely sensitive for people who have hearing problems. Reception Box office Despicable Me 2 grossed $368 million in North America, and $602.7 million in other countries, for a worldwide total of $970.8 million.

Critical response Despicable Me 2 received acclaimed positive reviews from critics. The film currently holds an 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 173 reviews, with an average rating of 6.7/10 and a critic consensus that says "Despicable Me 2 offers plenty of eye-popping visual inventiveness and a number of big laughs." Most of the fans of the franchise enjoy this movie considering as the best Despicable Me movie of the franchise.

Awards It was nominated in the Academy Awards for Best Animated Film and Best Original Song, the Golden Globes, the BAFTA, the Critic's Choice Awards and Annie Awards for Best Animated Film, losing all of them to Frozen.
