Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey is a video game of the Disney Princess franchise, which was released for the PlayStation 2, Wii, and PC in 2007. It was released on the PlayStation Network on February 15, 2012, in Europe.

Gameplay

The players can interact with various characters and solve problems by way of a magic wand that they are given at the start of the game. The players can collect gems and transform Bogs into non-threatening butterflies. As players complete each world, a gem will shine on their avatar's necklace and their castle will become less run-down and more fixed up.

Plot

The game follows an amnesiac young girl (Isabelle Fuhrman) who is brought to a dilapidated castle called "Gentlehaven" and sent on a quest to travel to the homes of various Disney Princesses and help solve problems caused by mischievous creatures called Bogs. The player travels to several worlds inhabited by Ariel (Jodi Benson), Jasmine (Linda Larkin), Cinderella (Jennifer Hale) and Snow White (Carolyn Gardner), ultimately culminating with a battle between the player and Zara - an ex-princess who is trying to stop every girl from becoming a princess. After successfully defeating Zara, the player is informed that she is a princess and that she can now travel to the world of Belle (Paige O'Hara) to solve additional problems.

Why It's Not Enchanted

  1. Repetitive storyline.
  2. The graphics look mediocre and don't push the system in any significant way. Even games such as Gran Turismo 4, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Resident Evil 4, Need for Speed, Underground 2, and Burnout 3: Takedown released before this, and they look far miles better than this.
  3. The only enemies in the game are the Bogs along with some few variations like Clock Bogs, Color Bogs and Genie Bogs, which all of them are incredibly weak.
  4. Minigames are basic, dull, and repetitive.
  5. The only unlockables in the entire game are the golden set dress and the castle remodeling which both of them are unlocked by completing the storyline or entering "BLUEBIRD" in the Secrets menu in case of the former and the Belle minigame can be unlocked by completing all the three chapters from all princess's worlds, or also entering "GASTON" in the Secrets menu. The Belle world is also a complete waste of time, all you do is play a single minigame where you kill Bogs over and over.
  6. You cannot die in this game because if the Bogs shoot green smokes at you, a meter appears that seems to be a health bar but in just a few seconds, the bar instantly refills making it impossible to get killed. Also, there are invisible walls in abysses which is the reason why it is not possible to get killed.
  7. The game is very easy with no ways to lose in the storyline due to the pointer WINE#6 and there's barely any challenge at all, especially since the game is oriented towards preschoolers.
  8. Also, the game is very short which can be completed in two hours or less. By entering "BEAST" in the Secrets menu, you're at the final boss fight with Zara without needing to complete all of the princesses' worlds which can be completed in five or six minutes.
  9. Generic soundtrack.
  10. The game gets boring very fast due to the reasons #6, #7, #8 and #11 to the point it you will no longer replay the game again for a long time.
  11. The collectibles are only gems and don't have any purpose to use since there's not any shops and you can easily reach the maximum number of gems, which is 999.
  12. Awful voice acting, despite some of the actresses of the princesses reprising their roles.
  13. Clunky controls, especially on the Wii version.
  14. The PS2 version requires 1200 KB to save the game in the Memory Card which is very unnecessary and also pointless to have a save game of that amount in your memory card in a game that has zero replay value and challenge. In fact, Gran Turismo 4 has almost 1500KB and has a huge replay value, and even some games such as Burnout Revenge or Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) despite having low KB file size in the Memory Card save game file has decent replay value.
  15. There are not a lot of customization options available.
  16. The Windows version lacks any V-Sync making it run at triple-digit or so frame rates, putting unnecessary strain on your GPU.
  17. The Steam release of the above-mentioned Windows version has a link to the manual which is actually for the PS2 version, console references and all.
  18. Lazy title screen and logo.
  19. Horrible ending.
  20. Nonsensical dialogue.
  21. The game was released on the PS2 in 2007 when it's a bit late, since the PS3 was out for a lengthy amount of time.
  22. There are only five franchises represented, which is no excuse since the games on the far less powerful GBA had six. The game lacks Aurora (who was present in the GBA games), but also Pocahontas and Mulan, though it's possible that this was due to Irene Bedard and Ming-Na Wen being too busy at the time.

Enchanted Qualities

  1. The voice actresses reprise their roles as their respective Disney Princesses.
  2. Passable character designs, and the designs of the Princesses still remain faithful to their respective Disney films.

Reception

Common Sense Media and the Gainesville Sun both praised the game overall, and the Gainesville Sun commented that "while "Enchanted Journey" is only for a limited audience, young girls who follow the Disney Princess line will be thrilled with the game and really enjoy exploring the different Princess worlds. The game is easy to learn and fun to play". IGN panned the game for its rough graphics and repetitive nature, remarking that while the game would be "a good way to keep kids entertained for a couple of hours", it was not worth paying full price.
