Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro (イジらないで、長瀞さん Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san) is an anime based on the manga of the same name by Nanashi (774). It premiered on April 11,2021.

Plot

Naoto Hachioji - or Senpai, as he is known - is a second-year student at Kazehaya High School and the only remaining member of its art club. He is a timid introvert who prefers to avoid social interactions and draws manga in his spare time. One day in the school library he meets a first-year girl, Hayase Nagatoro, who inadvertently discovers his manga and begins to tease him to the point of making him cry. Soon, however, he admits that he doesn't mind her talking to him and the two begin an odd 'friendship'.

Why It Rocks

1. It's a deconstruction of the bully character trope which Nagatoro doesn't really want to bully Naoto and she just wants him to be a better and less socially akward person to make his lifestyle and choices better to fit in human life and society.
2. Very good character development as Naoto starts to trust Nagatoro more and learns that she's more than a bully and teaser and Nagatoro will defend him from people who'll bully him worse than her.
3. Well-done animation, character designs and visuals and little-to no animation errors.
4. Very likable characters and well done development as mentioned from above WIR pointers.
   • Nagatoro might be a bully and teaser at times but all she wants is to improve Naoto's life and reputation to increase and better his life in society and the world. She'll also defend him from those who want to bully him for their own personal gain.
   • Naoto is a socially akward student who starts as a shut-in and timid but starts to trust Nagatoro and understands her more as the series progresses.
5. It tends to take a jab at most fanservice humor in romance and Slice-Of Life and parody the cliches and tropes of them very well.
6. Unlike other bully characters in anime such as Tsunderes. Nagatoro doesn't get pissed and violent as much and shows a lot of restraint for her actions which makes a lot of sense so she doesn't make Naoto's life worse and so she can succeed in her goal to make him a better and stronger person.
7. Very good opening and ending themes as well as background music to fit the mood of the scene. Episode 6 also has an 8-bit version of the ending theme during the ending credits sequence.
8. Very well-done humor and it's to show how Naoto can have fun, be a better person in society and and learn to not to stray from society and accept to communicate and socialize with others.
9. Very faithful to the manga and has a small amount of filler so it doesn't ruin it's premise and concept of the original source material.
10. The romance chemistry is very well-written as Nagatoro always defends Naoto from other bullies, has fun playing video games with him, making him more of a social human and learn to control his hormonal nature to understand real love.
11. It also parodies other modern anime tropes and cliches such as Isekai and fantasy tropes and beach episodes which was executed well in episode 6.

Bad Qualities

1. Some of the humor can get cringey and some unncessary references to modern pop culture.
2. False Advertising: The poster can be misleading as Nagatoro is actually not that sadistic of a person and will make it look like a very mean-spirited anime.
   • Several of Nagatoro's facial expressions such as this one in particular can make some of the audiences consider that she is a yandere.
