Doraemon Wii: Secret Tool King Tournament, known in Japan as Doraemon Wii: Himitsu Douguou Ketteisen (ドラえもん Wii ひみつ道具王決定戦) is a party video game developeed by 8ign and published by Sega on December 6, 2007 for the Wii exclusively in Japan. It is based on the manga and anime series Doraemon.

Gameplay

The game is similiar to Mario Party games. There is a board mode where players move around a board by rolling dice with special spaces that have different effects and mini-game mode where you can play minigames freely. After every character finishes half of the laps, the Sugoroido appears. He will roll his own dice to move backwards around the board. Landing on his space or having him land on yours provokes his ire, at which point he attacks. The Sugoroido will perform something adverse to you, such as reversing your progress or taking away your items, while sometimes he will do nothing, causing him to get mad.

Why It Rocks

  1. Colorful and excellent graphics, especially for Doraemon standards, and they fit the 2005 anime extremely well without any flaws at all. No matter if the characters are small or far away, the graphics will never ever be bad, thanks to how 8ing designed the game.
  2. Impressive and unforgettable music, especially the main menu theme, which is actually a theme song of the Doraemon anime. Other tracks that you would refuse to forget are themes from the "Town" stage, the Sugoroido's theme, or even the theme from some minigames, like Take-copter Hopter and Zany Zeikin, Fishing Frenzy. Some of the music sounds like you would try to sneak to do something secretly, like from the Fukugen Frenzy, Stun Gun Showdown, Dokusai Dilemma or Copy Toast Contest minigames.
  3. Fun minigames, especially the Take-copter Hopter, Fishing Frenzy, as Pass Loop ones. Even if you might lose a few of them sometimes and get 2nd place, you can still try to learn how to play them and finally get the 1st place for once.
  4. The character roaster is pretty cool, and has 6 characters from the series, Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo, Gian and Dorami. Even if it doesn't feature even more characters from the series, the character roaster will never be bad at all.
  5. Speaking of characters, each one of them contains their own special ability that something happens to their opponents or himself/herself.
    • Doraemon - He shuffles through his pocket, removing a lot of gadgets. He then gets two random gadgets from the 4D Pocket.
    • Nobita - He sleeps just like he does on his bed. His opponents then are only available the other players walk only one space. This lasts four times.
    • Shizuka - She plays the violin, referencing how she likes to play the violin, but for some reason cannot play well. After that, she forces one player to not use gadgets.
    • Suneo - Automatically gains some stars. If someone will stop in a space where you can get some stars, he gets them too.
    • Gian - Beats up other players, which makes them lose one of their gadgets. After that, he gets the stolen gadget from his victims.
    • Dorami - Several flowers appear right behind and next to her. After that, she can walk 1, 2 or 3 spaces.
  6. Lucky and unlucky spaces have different things that can happen to the character who landed on that space, or to his/her opponents. Lucky space shows you some pictures, character's emotions, or even him/her sleeping on a cloud in the "Cloud Kingdom" stage, and then finally something happens, like him/her getting some stars, getting more pourcents for a special ability, or make his/her opponents lose minimum 2 stars. As for unlucky spaces, it shows some pictures, and then some of character's emotions, like scared, sad, or crying, and then the player loses some stars, a gadget, makes his/her opponents get minimum 2 stars, causing the player to lose minimum 6 stars, or would not do anything for 1 turn.
  7. The screams in the "Jigen Baka Dan" minigame are pretty hilarious, for every character, especially Doraemon and Suneo's. No matter how many times they will scream the exact same screams all over again, they will be always hilarious, just to make you laugh a lot of times.
  8. Speaking of screams, one of Suneo's screams where he screams "MAMA!!" is really funny, and you can hear it a lot of times in the "Zany Zeikin" minigame if the Zeikin Bird will hit Suneo and make him lose some points, causing him to scream. He even screams that word in the "Fishing Frenzy" minigame if he will catch a shark. One of Nobita's screams is also pretty funny, which can be heard in the "Dokusai Dilemma" minigame whenever the player doesn't press the "A" button on the controller in time, and his scream from the "Dokusai Dilemma" minigame can be also seen in the "Fishing Frenzy" minigame, like Suneo's.
  9. Just like the show, the voice acting is awesome and talented. Even if Nobita probably sounds different than himself in the 2005 anime, the voice acting will never be bad.
  10. The minigame "Bai-bain" teaches people something that can be important to our health; don't eat too fast, or you will get a stomachache. This is something neat in the game, especially if you have got a stomachache a few times and had enough.

Bad Qualities

  1. Mini-Doras' screaming when you hit them in the "Love Arrow" minigame can be pretty annoying, especially the red one, or if a Mini-Dora is closer to you. But thankfully, in "The Human Controller" minigame, their screams aren't that annoying, unlike in the "Love Arrow" minigame.
  2. Some of the minigames can be a problem to figure out how to play them on Dolphin Emulator, unless you will modify the controls and remember them. This can be a problem, mostly for newbies.

Reception

While there are no reviews for Doraemon Wii: Secret Tool King Tournament, the game received very positive reception by many players. A Thai YouTuber named "MrKiddyKung" described this game as "one of the best party games ever".

Game Tips

  1. To unlock Dorami, get the 1st place in every stage with this list (NOTE: characters' names in bold means the character you have to play as):
    • District Area: Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka and Suneo
    • Nobita's Room: Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo and Gian
    • Cloud Kingdom: Shizuka, Suneo, Gian and Doraemon
    • Space Station: Suneo, Gian, Doraemon and Nobita

  2. In the "Super Glove Showdown" minigame, don't wait for long if you have at least 3 stones. If you will wait for too long, then the stones are wasted and you won't be able to do anything for a while.
