Doraemon no Game Boy de Asobouyo: Deluxe 10 is a mini-game collection game released in 1998 for the Game Boy. The game got extremely negative reviews from most Japanese players and critics.
Why It's Not Deluxe
- For starters, this game has one of the worst game titles of all time. What is Doraemon no Game Boy de Asobouyo: Deluxe 10 ("Let's Play With Doraemon Game Boy: 10" in English)? As it has Game Boy in the title, even Super Adventure Rockman has a better title, and that means something, since that one was also laughable.
- The title is also nonsencial, stupid and even misleading, as there isn't even only 10 mini games and the 10 in the title along with Game Boy are very unnecessary and is probably here to pad out the title of the game.
- Subpar and ugly graphics; even for a Game Boy game, there are not any whites in the game (something that is mostly needed for making good graphics in a Game Boy game), and due to that, the eyes of the characters are gray, which clash with the color of the game, in fact this issue here is much worse than in the Doraemon no Study Boy series which were also extremely bad and some of the worst Doraemon games ever made.
- Unlike the other Doraemon games on the system (with the exception of the Study Boy series), the game has a horrible, abysmal soundtrack that sounds extremely compressed even for a Game Boy game, especially compared to Doraemon Kart. It's even worse than most Game Boy games and even Sonic Jam on the Game.com.
- In fact, it's so bad that your ear could even bleed or be destroyed from this.
- Horrible mini games that are extremely confusing, unplayable, and not understandable (except if you know Japanese). While Doraemon: Wakuwaku Pocket Paradise on Game Gear has some confusing mini games, at least that game was fun (and a much better game, by the way).
- There are also many things that are simply boring, such as a strong CPU, a high degree of difficulty, relying on luck, and poor operability.
- The Maze mini game is the worst offender, as it's played like a very downgraded version of Doraemon: Meikyuu Daisakusen (you can't kill enemies in that mini game).
- The Maze mini game also has a glitch (probably) that when you choose the character you want and the opponent you fight, the characters chosen will swap in (for example, if you choose Doraemon as the character you play and Shizuka as the opponent, instead you play as Shizuka first and Doraemon after).
- There are only 5 playable characters, and while there are no major ones missing in the game, they could include at least Dorami and Dekisugi, which would have helped make the game roster a bit better (though that would not help much).
- The cursor movement is sluggish, there is a gap when switching screens and saving, and the message display that does not disappear immediately even if it can be fast forwarded is a bit messy overall.
- The save system is abysmal; just like Mario Pinball Land on Game Boy Advance, you have to save yourself, and the game doesn't save automatically, even if your Game Boy is turned off due to a dead battery or if you accidentally turn off your console.
- There are not any story modes; not only is the game bad enough, but Doraemon: Wakuwaku Pocket Paradise on Game Gear (kids gear when this game came out), which was released in 1996, has a story mode, and Doraemon no Game Boy de Asobouyo: Deluxe 10 was released in late 1998, so there is no excuse for this.
- As said in the Doraemon Kart page, making a Game Boy game in 1998 is a very bad idea since the console was dead at the time and there were consoles like the PlayStation, the Nintendo 64, and the Sega Saturn.
- False advertising: The manual says "a mode where you can play alone while enjoying the story" while there are not any, and to make matters worse, there are not any story modes.
- Due to the awful quality of the game, it could feel like a bootleg rather than a official Game Boy game.
- To see the ending, you need to clear the mini-games over and over again and get a total score of 100,000 points, which is too much, we're not even kidding.
- However, the score obtained during the mini-game is multiplied by 10 when the score is settled. Even though it's actually worth 10000 points, the number of points you can get in one game is about 50 to 20 points, and if you're bad at it, it's a single digit, even 0 points.
- The Super Game Boy background is quite lazy, as it's just the Doraemon pocket and that it.
- Extremely boring gameplay that gets old very fast with a lot of awful mini games that are bland and horribly confusing, not to mention that to make the game even more boring and even worse, you have to get a total of 100000 points to beat the game, making this even worse.
- With Doraemon Kart on Game Boy, it proves that there are more bad than good Doraemon games on Game Boy and also proves that it's quantity over quality, which is unacceptable for Doraemon standards.
- This game was also the last Doraemon game ever released for the original Game Boy, this made an extremely awful conclusion to the Doraemon Game Boy games, in which most of them for the system, with 2 exceptions, were mediocre to downright terrible, like this game.
- Like Doraemon Kart 2, this game is somehow a massive insult to the Doraemon franchise, due to how bad it is.
The Only Doraemon Quality
- The box art is nice looking, well-drawn, and faithful to the series, and can be seen as the only good thing of the game.
Reception
The game received mostly negative reviews by critics and players alike, with some of them saying that it's one of the worst Doraemon games ever made.
Trivia
- The game is based on a Doraemon real board game toy.
- It is the last Doraemon game released on the Game Boy.
