Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (ドラゴンボールZ 神と神 Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Zetto: Kami to Kami,) is a 2013 animated science fantasy action film, the eighteenth feature film based on the Dragon Ball series, and the fourteenth to carry the Dragon Ball Z branding, released in theaters on March 30.

Plot

Beerus, the God of Destruction, is woken from a lengthy slumber by his attendant Whis. While reviewing the current state of the universe, he is surprised to learn that Frieza was defeated by a Saiyan named Goku. He recalls that thirty-nine years prior, the Oracle Fish foretold that a mighty opponent would appear before Beerus called the Super Saiyan God. Intrigued by the potential challenge, Beerus then tracks Goku to King Kai's planet. Goku excitedly challenges Beerus to a fight and despite powering up to Super Saiyan 3, is effortlessly defeated. Disappointed, Beerus departs in order to seek out the other Saiyans.

Why It Rocks

  1. Battle of Gods is a nice present to all Dragon Ball fans (especially after mh:awfulmovies:Dragonball: Evolution) that is surprisingly deep and well balanced.
  2. All the characters have their shining moments in this, either be it badass or completely hilarious just in old tradition of Dragon Ball.
  3. Aside from the fantastical, frenetic action this series is known for, this most fun the Dragon Ball franchise has seen in a long time.
  4. Thanks to series creator Akira Toriyama being involved, there's a lot of humor and personality that was lacking in previous movies and even the later part of the manga & TV Show.
  5. Even minor characters are given some personality and spot on dialogue.
  6. When there is a fight and it's seemingly dragging on forever, the show is encouraging the viewer to think deeply. Goku, although daft and possibly insane, always makes the right decision in the end. Most times, his enemies become his allies, out of shear respect for the person he is, regardless of his power.
  7. On the surface there is nothing subtle about DBZ, but underneath there is a blueprint for life, Battle of the Gods captured that perfectly.
  8. It has many of the elements that made the series great: the battles, the transformations, the jokes and funny moments, and the great characters we all love.
  9. Everyone is fully utilized and newcomers like Beerus and Whis fit into the Dragon Ball universe perfectly.
  10. In Dragon Ball Z Goku age is 41 years. If you waana know the goku real age then check out this - How Old Is Goku?

Bad Qualities

  1. There wasn't even an imminent danger to prevent or fight against, and even if there was, the reasons that seem to motivate the main "villain" to do so, seemed pathetic or insignificant.
  2. The production quality was mediocre, there are times where 2D and 3D try to blend in but it does not look good.

Reception

The review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported that 88% of critics have given the film a positive review based on 8 reviews, with an average rating of 6.50/10.
