DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing is a racing game devloped by GameMill Entertainment and it was released on November 3, 2023. The game contains charatcers from Shrek, Puss in Boots, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, The Boss Baby, Trolls, and The Bad Guys.
Why It's an ALL-STAR
- This game is a huge improvement over DreamWorks Super Star Kartz, this time with more characters in different franchises, especially Kung Fu Panda.
- It has plenty of characters in the roster and most of them are balanced unlike its predecessor.
- This even includes Po, Tigress, and Master Oogway from Kung Fu Panda and Megamind himself appears as a guest racer, despite being hailed from DreamWorks itself.
- Speaking of Megamind, while he does not have his home track, it features a unique track that is not related to DreamWorks, which is Galactic Sky, a track that reselmbles Rainbow Road from Mario Kart, but with more pink and blue hues in the course layout.
- Unlike Super Star Kartz, it has a completely different cinematic intro like Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3, but it is more cinematic than reusing clips and gameplay.
- The menu is beautiful, where characters are seen driving their karts, or in the side menu's case, they perform actions from the character selection screen.
- There are more tracks than Super Star Kartz, especially the ones that are given in its predecessor, such as New York City Zoo, Far Far Away, and Dragon's Keep.
- Other tracks are new and not somewhat plagiarized, such as the Hidden World, Gongmen City, New Berk, and other tracks that are new to this game, like Baby Corp, Pop Village, Museum of Fine Arts, and even Galactic Sky.
- Before starting the race, there is a fun minigame where players have to time the notes to get a rocket start.
- A Magic Lyre appears in all courses, which cannot only enter a magical rainbow path, but also get collectibles and can lead other opponents in a race.
- Colletibles are found in every track and they can be used for the collection once players obtain all of them in all classes.
- Once the player refills the Troll Surprise meter by collecting music notes or driving on the yellow music pad, it contains items that can surprise other players, like getting a speed boost or drawing musical notes
- The game has challenges that can perform certain tasks, like performing tricks or collecting hourglasses to increase time. Once they complete all 5 challenges, they can challenge a boss.
- After you defeat a boss, they can become playable characters.
- The game has customizations before starting the race, and you can get more when you complete the race in Grand Prix and Challenges.
- The game has voice acting, just like its predecessor, but it is better.
- Great graphics and music.
Not an All-Star Qualities
- Missed Opportunities:
- Characters from the Croods would have been included too, as well as the stage originating from it.
- Megamind would have included its home track, based on Metro City.
- Battle mode, yes really, is not in this game.
- While most of the voice acting is good, others have their unsettling voice acting like Donkey's voice trying hard as his movie counterpart.
- The music has nothing to do with the DreamWorks media, just like its predecessor.
- Collectibles serve no purpose after collecting all of them.
- The single-player mode is similar to Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 and 3, with most of the objects seen floating in space. At least the latter (Slime Speedway) has some detailed environment unlike the former one (Grand Prix).
Trivia
- Megamind appears in this game as a guest racer, even though he is hailed from DreamWorks Animation. However, this might be due to the lack of Megamind tracks and it is replaced with Galactic Sky.
- The characters from Trolls, except Bridget and King Gristle, appear as pit crews. This is due to their small size; which is ironic since characters from The Boss Baby, Master Shifu, and King Julien appear in small sizes.
