Summary
Twelve years ago, a vicious tailed beast known as the Nine-Tails attacked the shinobi village of Konohagakure. Many shinobi fought the beast but killed all those standing before it. The Fourth Hokage saved the town by sealing the beast with an infant boy at the cost of his own life.
Why It Rocks
- It introduce the characters really well, and you will directly know what their personality, despite that some characters aren't that much present, but this is to be expected when they are supporting characters, and those would still get character development over the episodes.
- A lot of the characters are likable, especially Naruto and Iruka Sensei, and those two even go into character development in the first episode already, which is not common to see.
- The animation is really good, especially for a first episode, since it is so detailled and fluid, and the art style is awesome as usual, the animation would getting even better in the next episodes.
- A great plot, and it explain very well what the nine tails fox did in the past and why does Naruto get rejected by nearly everyone except Iruka and Hinata (at the time).
- The fight with Misuki Sensei is a great fight, even if it is short, and the fight itself is somewhat epic, due to how Naruto used the multiclones technic.
- Great pacing, although it might be too fast.
- Some funny moments, such as when Naruto do the clown when he had to do a metamorph, and instead of doing it properly, he do a sexy jutsu, and in the most funny way possible.
- Great voice acting
- The way Misuki did his plans to get the banned technics was very decent, although his plans had failed due to Naruto understanding that it wasn't Iruka the villain but Misuki.
- A great and emotional ending where we see Iruka giving Naruto the title of ninja, and Naruto did hug him back.
Bad Qualities
- The students are very mean to Naruto, except Hinata.
- There's two plot holes, which are:
- It is never explained how Naruto did know that Misuki got Iruka appearance.
- It isn't explained how Naruto did learn the multi clones tech, although that could have been because of the banned techs list.
Trivia
- Shikamaru, Ino, and Sakura were behind Naruto in the anime, but in the manga, different unnamed Academy students were behind him.
- This episode does not contain the opening sequence; only the title appears at the end of the prologue and the theme song plays only in the scene where some of the Konohagakure shinobi are chasing Naruto for defacing the Hokage Rock.
- The English dub of this episode was originally released as TV-Y7-FV. Due to the heavy content of the series, though, this rating was never used again.
- In the cut version, the blood from Iruka's nosebleed was edited out, so he was only seen falling back
