"Etiquette Shmetiquette" is the 153rd episode of "New Looney Tunes".
Plot
Daffy infiltrates Granny and Tweety's new charm school for chickens in search of a meal.
Why It Sucks
- This episode is just a 6 minute long Daffy Duck torture episode.
- Tweety is extremely out-of-character and unlikeable in this episode, as he tortures Daffy Duck and beats him.
- In addition the only reason to why Tweety was beating up Daffy was because he came in to get a meal. Yes, the writers couldn't come up with a better reason for Tweety to torture Daffy other than Daffy was posing as a chicken.
- Speaking of which, in one scene Tweety holds Daffy's breath and ties his mouth up so he can not breathe on a kids show.
- Daffy basically brought the torture to himself by breaking into Granny and Tweety's chicken school just to get some food.
- As stated in WIS 1, Daffy is constantly getting tortured though the episode. Unlike his other appearances where his comeuppance is usually justified for his actions against other characters, here, he is an innocent character who gets tortured for no explained reason at all other than him posing as a chicken.
- As stated in WIS 2, rather than Tweety being an innocent character who only fights back his enemies such as Sylvester only when provoked, here Tweety does the exact opposite where he tortures his enemies without a valid reason whatsoever, making him come off more like a villain than a hero. In other words, here Tweety acts more like a canary version of Jerry from the Gene Deitch-era Tom and Jerry shorts than his true self.
- Tweety is never punished for his sadistic actions towards Daffy.
- Overall, the pairing between Daffy and Tweety is very poorly mismatched, much like the infamous and notorious Daffy/Speedy pairings of the 1960s.
- It’s probably also the reason why Tweety himself was erased from the series in its third and final season.
Redeeming Qualities
- The animation is good.
- The voice acting is decent.
- At least Tweety went back to his regular behavior after this episode.
- Some good gags including the music recital scene (even though Daffy's mouth getting tied up was disturbing).
- While it still doesn't excuse Tweety's actions, Daffy technically deserved all that abuse considering he faked being a chicken just to get some food.
