Fairy Dust is a 2016 short film directed by and starring Swedish recording artist Tove Lo, and co-starring Lina Esco. The film is adapted from the first six songs or more appropriately “chapters” of Tove’s sophomore long player Lady Wood released on 28 October 2016. Three days after the album’s release it premiered via YouTube on 31 October. The following day it was yanked from the video streaming site due to a depiction of sexually explicit content, but reinstated with viewers to verify their age before screening. It was followed by Fire Fade, which was released in August 2017.

Plot

A never-ending tale of sex, heartaches, and drugs between two sworn girlfriends. Features the songs Fairy Dust, Influence, Cool Girl, True Disaster, Vibes, the album’s title track, and newcomer Bitches.

Why It Inhaled Too Much Fairy Dust (PCP)

  1. Unlike Lemonade, which has little to no instances of sexual content and scenes, Fairy Dust has plenty, including the closing tag.
  2. Both Tove Lo and Lina Esco display little emotion while acting.
  3. The film has the musical numbers come rather quickly instead of waiting for a couple of two scenes. It is practically a 31-minute-long advertisement for the first chapter of said album.
  4. The action of lighting the hotel room on fire is very dangerous as both women could get killed in real life.
  5. The scene of Tove Lo shaving her head bald seems quite disturbing to some.
  6. Lorna's relationship with Tove has barely any interactivity as she did not angrily berate the latter during the extremely bawdy stinger.
  7. Speaking of Tove, she is an incredibly unlikable character since she seems to be more focused on only wanting to have sex.
  8. The last song "Bitches" playing in the aforementioned ending is also too pornographic. To make matters worse, it was too explicit to be played on radio stations.
  9. As mentioned in WIS #1, since when it was a good idea to have Tove Lo masturbating in the bed as a credits roll?

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The musical numbers except Bitches were great to hear, especially the two singles from the album Cool Girl and True Disaster.
  2. Gorgeously done choreographies.
  3. The next film Fire Fade seems to be a massive improvement.
