Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa is a horizontally scrolling shooter originally released in 1987 for the Master System, later in 1988, Sunsoft did a port on the Famicom, in which this page will cover it's flaws.

Bad Qualities

  1. While this port isn't bad overall (at least better than the first game port by Tengen), it's downgrade nearly everything from the original version, which will be explained in the next pointers.
  2. The framerate, while not as abysmal as the framerate from the first game on NES by Tengen, is somehow much worse than the other ports, due to being slow and sluggish and it's overall make this port slow paced.
  3. Despite not being bad, the graphics have been downgraded and look weak compared to the Master System version and even the first game NES port, this is because of the sub par colors choice and the sprites that aren't as great.
  4. It is slower than the other versions, mostly due to how bad the framerate is.
  5. The soundtrack in this version is incredibly awful, ear bleeding and unbearable to listen to, this is due to how horrible the instruments are, and some tracks are repetitive, which doesn't make it any better.
  6. The Opa-Opa sprite look wrong in this port, due to him being wrongly colored, this is even more of a problem if you condider the fact that the first game port by Sunsoft got Opa-Opa sprite right.
  7. Sometime, you might not see a bullet shoot by an enemy, even more than the other versions, and this might cause cheap deaths.

Good Qualities

  1. As said in BQ#3, the graphics are decent, and the colors palette is somewhat good to look at despite what was said about it.
  2. This version is still not as terrible as the first game ported by Tengen.
  3. This port is still perfectly playable, and can be fun to play, but the problem is that it had lot of downgraded things from the original versions, which make it not possible to be in good media.
  4. At least despite this port flaws, it still had the original game feel.
