Five Nights at Freddy's: High School, often called FHS (formerly FNAFHS) is a Spanish/Mexican web series created by Eddochan (formerly known as Edd00chan). It is a fan-made project, which takes the assets of the Five Nights At Freddy's franchise, and retools them into a light-hearted high school series.

Why It's Not Ready for Freddy

  1. Poor grasp of the source material: You see, one of the biggest problems with this series, is the fact that it doesn't even try to resemble the games. The game Five Nights At Freddy's is a survival horror game about a pizzeria, where the animatronics get possessed by ghosts of murdered children. This series, however, takes that concept and ignores it in order to take the core assets and repurpose them into a generic concept, by things like taking the characters of the ghosts (or at least, the animatronics that they possess), and turn them into human teenagers.
  2. The concept of taking a horror game and turning it into a teen drama is laughably awful because the main characters in the FNAF games are not teenagers, and thus, don’t fit well in a high school setting.
  3. Despite being based on FNAF, multiple characters from the franchise are missing, such as the Phantoms and several of the Nightmares.
  4. It calls itself an animated series, but the first season had very little to no animation, and the characters only moved their mouths.
  5. The characters have absurd reactions to sensible or serious topics.
  6. Inconsistent art style in the first season, such as heads getting bigger or smaller depending on the frame, hair sightly changing, etc.
  7. The plot became confusing by the third season.
  8. The characters are full of clichés. For example, Fox is the bad boy and Joy is a Mary Sue.
  9. In recent episodes, there was no credit to Scott Cawthon, the creator of Five Nights at Freddy's.
  10. Como salir del closet is one of the most hated episodes of the web series. It was made to celebrate Pride Month, but was strongly criticized because it said that Fede and Felix (Funtime Freddy and Funtime Foxy) had to "come out of the closet" to confess their love.
  11. Eddochan monetizes and makes merchandise of FNAFHS, which could be considered controversial, as they are leeching money off of someone else's property.
  12. The uniforms look too similar to the U.A. High School uniforms from My Hero Academia (which also counts as plagiarism).
  13. Most of the cast were exposed of many offensive actions and beliefs, which damaged the messages the characters tried to teach.
  14. Due to the strong criticism and hatred that this web series had, IT DAMAGED A LOT OF THE REPUTATION OF FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S, which became infamous for this aberration. Fortunately, when the series was canceled, little by little the love and admiration that started in 2014 started to grow again.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The animation and anatomy had improved in the second and third seasons, though it still doesn't say too much.
  2. The next seasons had fewer clichés.
  3. The characters themselves are pretty likable, despite being cliched
  4. The concept of having a friendly and normal soul and ghost-ego with negative feelings and emotions in the same body and changing shifts every moment is interesting, and it was well executed here.
  5. The voice acting is alright at best.
  6. Other alternate series such as LOBBO and B4D, had interesting concepts with potential, despite promoting the BxB (Bon x Bonnie), which was a highly acclaimed and criticized ship at the same time, Moreover, these did not have a proper ending either, and were unfinished, with B4D it was learned that it only had 4 episodes because EddoChan and her husband MrDSaster had a misunderstanding with the artist Ladyangyko
  7. Despite all the confusion, the third season came to explain interesting plots, the concept of merging with your shadow to obtain powers and help other people to help control their shadows IS AWESOME and they even explained more about the past of the protagonists, but unfortunately it finished until episode 10, which left many unfinished unknowns to the series

Trivia

  • Some characters' names have been changed due to copyright, some examples are: Mangle to Meg, Bonbon to Usagi Bon, Foxy to Fox, etc.
  • Originally, EddoChan did the voice of Freddy in the first 2 episodes of the first season, but from the third episode, he is voiced by DannyCat.
  • The famous Spanish video game YouTuber, iTownGamePlay, participated in the series giving voice to the character of TownTrap, due to a friendship with EddoChan.
  • Despite the criticism, this series gained a cult following, who contributed many things to their community, such as fanfics, fanmade comics, fanart, etc.
  • EddoChan released a web series similar to this one called FNFHS(Friday Night Funkin High School) in 2021, which he did to take advantage of the trend of the game, but as expected, it was just as criticized as FNaFHS.

Reception

FNaFHS was very, very criticized by internet critics and fans of the original game (especially Spanish-speaking users) due to its absurd concept, cliche characters, copyrighted music, and not crediting Scott Cawthon, however, it also gained a cult following. It currently has a score of 2.0/10 on IMDB and greatly damaged the image of the original game.
