Funny Pants is a Season 4 episode from SpongeBob SquarePants. It was aired on Nickelodeon on September 30, 2005.

Un-Funny Qualities

  1. The idea of SpongeBob laughing throughout the episode is somewhat contradictory, given the fact that SpongeBob only laughs once or twice in an episode to make it less annoying.
  2. SpongeBob's laughter is unbelievably overused and annoying in this episode. Anim8ball (MoBros) mentions that his voice seems to be squeaker than it normally is.
    • Why is he laughing? "Another Day, Another Nickel!". HILARIOUS.
  3. There could've been funnier things for SpongeBob to avoid instead of these typical slapstick comedy cliché devices like banana peels, pies, and whoopee cushions.
  4. The episode teaches a bad lesson that you should let other people annoy you all the time as all Squidward wanted was to not be annoyed by SpongeBob’s irritating laughter yet when he tries to do something about it, he is portrayed as in the wrong for it.
  5. Squidward never even tried to politely ask Spongebob to stop his laughing and explain why he wants it to stop. He only revealed that he was annoyed by it after he confessed the prank to SpongeBob.
  6. Later in the episode SpongeBob starts crying, but at least it's shorter than most episodes and the least of the episode's problems.
  7. In the end, Squidward ends up breaking his laugh box, and then he gets SpongeBob's. That's his comeuppance, even for the laughing box thing he made up earlier.
    • There could've been better comeuppances for Squidward than something he just made up so he can get SpongeBob to stop laughing.
  8. Some think that this episode started SpongeBob's flanderization, though it was actually "Boating Buddies" that started his flanderization.

Funny Qualities

  1. The laughing and crying parts are only for a part of the episode.
  2. Squidward's laugh box prank does work on SpongeBob.
  3. Despite the generic "funny jokes", the episode decently exaggerates them.
  4. Patrick’s scene where he slips on the banana peel is funny.

Reception

  • Originally, MoBrosStudios ranked this as number 15 on his worst episodes list, but later took it off as Anim8ball reviewed his original list.
