Fur Fighters is a video game developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Acclaim Entertainment for the Dreamcast in 2000, later for Microsoft Windows. In 2001, an updated version for the PlayStation 2 was released as Fur Fighters: Viggo's Revenge. On July 20 2012, members of Muffin Games, ex-Bizarre Creations staff, announced a conversion for iPad, called Fur Fighters: Viggo on Glass.
Plot
In Fur Fighters, the player's job is to rescue the tiny animal babies who have been taken from their families by the central villain, General Viggo. Viggo has scattered these babies all over the world, requiring the Fur Fighter families to explore, confront Viggo's henchmen, and rescue all of them.
Why It Rocks
Overall
- The game is pretty long, as it can take over 15 Hours to beat the main story, and 40 Hours for 100%
- Amazing soundtrack
- There are 6 Playable characters to play as, in which they have separate collectables (in which are babies) they can only collect (depending on their species), as well as exclusive abilities needed for some platforming. These are the 6 playable characters you can play as.
- Roofus the Hound (Can dig through mounds)
- Juliette the Cat (Can climb up objects)
- Bungalow the Kangaroo (Can jump higher)
- Chang the Firefox (Can get through small nooks and crannies)
- Rico the Penguin (Can swim)
- Tweek the Dragon (Can glide)
- Interesting plot of the game, in which many games don't really do during the time.
Dreamcast And PC Version
- The graphics look pretty good for Dreamcast and PC standards, the character designs are also pretty interesting.
PlayStation 2 Version
- This version adds 7 more levels to the game, adds a few minigames if you beat the game 100%, adds a Blood cheat in the game, a few more weapons such as the Flamethrower, voice acting, and it improves some of the graphics (Notably General Bristol being transparent due to being a ghost)
- Good Cel-Shaded graphics for the time. (Despite it removing some of the detail from the original models)
- Adds a few extra cheats that the original game didn't have.
Bad Qualities
Overall
- The controls are rather messy in the Dreamcast version, for example the left trigger button is used for jumping. In which they can be hard to control, also hard to do platforming with them.
- While it is a good idea to have 6 Different protagonists with their own collectables, it can be a chore to backtrack and switch characters just to collect them.
PlayStation 2 Version
- Mediocre voice acting, some of the characters sound bored while doing their lines. In fact the character's mouths don't even match what they say.
- In fact, the mobile version of the game (in which was based on the Dreamcast Version) removed them.
- While the graphics are still good for the time, some of the textures are rather low quality.
Reception
The Dreamcast version of Fur Fighters received "favourable" reviews, while its PC version, along with Viggo's Revenge and Viggo on Glass, received "mixed or average reviews", according to video game review aggregator Metacritic.
