G.A.S.P!!: Fighters' NEXTream, known in North America as Deadly Arts, is a fighting game developed by KCEO and published by Konami, released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64.

Why It's A Generation of Crap

  1. It lacks some creativity other 3D fighting games have, as a result, the game feel like a generic 3D fighting game with nothing new to offer, also making the game forgettable.
  2. Lazy character design, despite some of them looking good.
  3. The controls are very poor, as they are stiff and unresponsive, as well as the jumps being awful to control, in fact they are so bad that the game is almost unplayable.
  4. Special moves are extremely hard to perform, this is mostly because of the terrible controls and gameplay.
  5. Some of the characters' moves copy the ones from other fighting games, such as the Street Fighters series.
  6. The level design is horrible.
  7. Most of the music is generic and bland, especially in comparison to other Konami games released on the N64, Goemon's Great Adventure had better musics than this and it was released in the same year, and was also developped by Konami, although that game came out a bit later than this but still...
  8. The North American version is the worst out of those releases because of some changes that are terrible:
    • The announcer doesn't say the title of the game, although that not the worst change of that version.
    • The names of the characters have been shortened.
    • The characters' dialogue has been removed.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. It features a create-a-fighter mode.
  2. At least the Japan versions is better than North America versions, because it had more things to it, though it still isn't safe from being bad.

Reception

G.A.S.P!!: Fighters' NEXTream received unfavorable reviews from the critics. GameSpot gave it a 3.4/10 and IGN gave it a 3.2/10.
