Garfield and His Nine Lives is a 2006 video game released for the Game Boy Advance. It was developed by Lucky Jump Games and published by The Game Factory.

Good Qualities

  1. The graphics are very good, with great graphics and being very colorful; it's a huge improvement over the pretty poor graphics of Garfield: The Search for Pooky, which was overall worse than this one.
  2. Decent controls: while the jump can appear clunky, they still do a good job of being great controls and easy to pick up, which wasn't really the case in Garfield: The Search for Pooky.
  3. The game is faithful to the Garfield comics book and TV show, with the graphics, and the small cutscenes, or title cards for levels being very accurate to both.
  4. Great looking title cards before the levels that are very accurate to a level, and they are also colorful, much like the show.
  5. The soundtrack is awesome, even for a Garfield game, as there are a lot of epic and catchy musics, such as the boss fight music and the title screen music. It's so good that it might and the music and so good that can make them fall asleep of the best soundtracks out of any Garfield game.
  6. The hit detection, while not the best and still a bit poor, is much better than the previous Garfield game on the Game Boy Advance.
  7. The game is also less frustrating than Garfield: The Search for Pooky, with the difficulty being balanced, although it's too easy sometimes.
  8. The boss fights, while simple, have a great concept, even if most of them are poor.
  9. Great characters animations that is a big improvement over The Search for Pooky.
  10. Very good box art that is very detailed, and somewhat funny.
  11. There are save files this time, unlike The Search for Pooky, which had passwords instead.

Bad Qualities

  1. With the exception of the final boss, the boss fights are poor and too easy, despite them being a big improvement over The Search for Pooky bosses. Not only that, but they are also too basic, especially the first boss at level 3.
  2. The controls can take a bit of time to get used to.
  3. The ending is even worse than The Search for Pooky, since it's just Garfield running happily, when he beat the final boss.
  4. The game is extremely short, especially if you do a 100% run, as you can beat it in only 20 minutes.
  5. The game is also way too easy for most parts, and barely had any challenge, and due to this, it is hard to get a game over.

Reception

The game got mixed reviews, with a score of 56/100 in Metacritic. However, the game received mixed to positive reviews by players.

It is also considered to be one of the best Garfield game.

Trivia

  • Despite sharing the same name with Garfield: His 9 Lives, the game had nothing to do with that book and movie.
  • Garfield's movement animations are similar to the ones in Garfield: Caught in the Act, at least the Sega Genesis version.
