Gary in Love is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 7.

Summary

SpongeBob takes Gary to a snail park to play with other snails. Suddenly, Gary falls in love with a snail named Mary.

Love Qualities

  1. It is a much better episode than "One Coarse Meal" (or "Rodeo Daze" in the number code), as stated in the infobox, due to the better writing and also because of being less mean-spirited.
  2. Despite not being as good as the previous seasons, the animation is decent and colorful, even if it is a little bland.
  3. Most of the characters are likable and are redeemed from "One Coarse Meal".
    • SpongeBob is likable and care a lot about Gary, despite that he did though that Mary did kidnapped Gary at one moment.
    • Gary is also likable and he is in one of the few episode that center mostly about him, and it is executed much better than in "A Pal for Gary".
    • Mary is a likable love interest for Gary, even though their relation isn't that much developped.
  4. The bullies are good villains and also have decent character development, despite being a bit mean-spirited.
  5. The crush that Gary had on Mary is cute, despite being underdeveloped due to them being constantly separated from each others.
  6. Lot of funny moments, such as the moments with Gary and Mary.

Heartbreak Qualities

  1. As stated in LQ#2, the animation is a bit bland, at least compared to the previous and next seasons.
  2. Heartbreaking ending: Gary did lost his love interest, and their relation will never ever be back in the series after that.
  3. The owner of Mary is really unlikable, since when she saw SpongeBob that did take Gary, she was mean to him and called Gary ugly, which is extremely mean-spirited, even for season 6 standards.
  4. The scene where SpongeBob think that Mary did kidnapped Gary is quite dumb, since it is clear that she would not doing anything with him, and that Gary was perfectly fine, but howewer it isn't nearly as horrible as in "A Pal for Gary", where he though that Gary did bad thing to Puffy Fluffy.
  5. Despite still being a good episode overall, it is slow paced for a lot of it.

Reception

Despite having a 3.5/10 on IMDb (Due to how horribly "One Coarse Meal" was received), the episode was well received by fans of the show, it is also considered to be one of the best episode of season 6.
