George of the Jungle and the Search for the Secret (in Europe and Australia simply known as George of the Jungle) is a platform video game released for the PlayStation 2, Wii, and Nintendo DS. It is based on the 2007 reboot of George of the Jungle. Developed by Papaya Studio^[1] and published by Crave Entertainment in North America, and Ignition Entertainment in Europe and Australia.

Gameplay

The game is in 3D, but plays like a 2D side-scrolling platform game with 3D turns and camera angles in the environment and the path that George walks on. There are a total of 6 levels: 2 with a jungle theme, 2 with a swamp theme, and 2 with temple theme. All 6 levels are made to look like the cartoon series (the 2007 remake, not the original 1960s version). The secret alluded to in the game's title is never explained.

Plot

George and his best friend Ape are looking forward to "an important jungle mission" of vine soccer practice...? When they find that Magnolia and Ursula have gotten sick with the common cold. Doctor Scott is working on a cure for them (yes folks, a cure for the most common and easily curable disease in the world) when the pages in his book get scattered. It is up to George to retrieve the pages and cure Magnolia and Ursula.

Why Nobody Should Search for this "Secret"

Bad graphics. It was released in 2008, at the same time many games offered much better graphics. Here's a list of games that offered better graphics:

Incredibly bad controls: inputs are delayed and unresponsive, making the game's platformer more horrid than it should be. As Caddicarus describes it: "It's more unresponsive than my granny... and she's dead!"
The Wii and DS versions have bad collision detection.
The combat system consists of mashing a single button before something dies. Even the boss fights demand from you endlessly punching them until they die.
- Speaking of the combat system, you can get locked into combat with difficulty getting out, due to George getting locked in place when he gets hit.
Misleading title: Despite the title saying, "the Search for the Secret", George looks for the pages of a book that Dr. Towel Scott was working on a cure for the common cold... that wasn't even a secret at first!
The music is drowned out by a constant buzzing noise.
During the tutorial, where you are taught vital moves to progress, at one point you have to roll under a set of spikes, which the game doesn't teach you about.
In the opening cinematic, the voices don't sync with the lip movement.
Unskippable cutscenes.
Sometimes, the game loads into a black screen.
The game was released for the PS2 in 2008, when the PS3 had already been out for a lengthy amount of time. Why can't this game be released on the PS3 instead?

Reception

The game received "generally unfavorable reviews" on all platforms according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. IGN criticized the Wii and Nintendo DS versions for its poor collision detection and how it mocks the player with doors that lead into the background where the player can't do anything.
