Get Ed is an American-Canadian computer-animated television series that debuted in 2005 that aired as a part of the Jetix and it was created by the late Andy Knight.

Plot

In the series, Ed is an "electro-genetically" enhanced teen who works for Dojo Deliveries, a courier service, in the futuristic Progress City. Ed uses his cyber sleuthing skills to thwart identity theft and other information-based crimes. He and his courier pals Burn, Deets, Fizz, and Loogie (accompanied by his puppet Dr. Pinch), along with their friend and mentor Ol’ Skool, must battle the ultimate evil – Bedlam, an industrialist who has taken over a significant portion of Progress City, by means of stealing from, data mining, or outright destroying his competitors.

Why It Rocks

  1. It was the first fully computer-animated television series to be made by the Disney studio, ten years after the success of Pixar's first feature film, Toy Story. In fact, it was a good way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Toy Story franchise.
  2. The voice acting is decent.
  3. Great animation that has aged well.
  4. Great-to-decent storylines.
  5. It shares with between Futurama and Cyberchase, except this one teaches some lessons.
  6. Bedlam is a quite antagonist in the show.
  7. Likable characters, such as Ed, Burn (despite his mean-spiritedness towards Ed), Deets, Fizz, Loogie, and Ol' Skool.
  8. Great action scenes.
  9. The intro itself is awesome and catchy.
  10. Some heartwarming moments, such as the two-part finale, "Ex-Machina", as Ol' Skool seemingly gives his life to stop Bedlam from destroying the city, the series ends with the kids having to pick up the pieces of what remains of the lives that they used to know.

Bad Qualities

  1. The series can get mean-spirited at times.
  2. Despite receiving stellar ratings and positive reviews from critics, the show as not renewed for a second season.
    • Even worse, Andy Knight, creator of Get Ed, died with a stroke on April 10, 2008, having the show to end with an unresolved cliffhanger.
  3. Loogie, while being funny, he and his puppet Dr. Pinch can be very annoying sometimes.

Trivia

  • A second season almost happened, which would've resolved the cliffhanger ending by likely revealing that both Ol'Skool and Bedlam survived but it never materialized due to the show being screwed by the network. Any plans for it to resume were scrapped after Andy Knight's death in 2008.
  • This, along with Yin Yang Yo!, were both co-produced with Canada. However, unlike Yin Yang Yo!, this series has a lot more Canadian producers and composers.
  • Despite this show produced by Walt Disney Television Animation during the end credits, it was credited as Jetix Animation Concepts.
  • The French title for the series is, "Get Ed: livraison express".
  • Out of all of the Jetix original productions so far, this is the shortest television series, due to it having 26 episodes in a single season from 2005 to 2006.
  • The series has been dubbed in several languages such as German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Dutch.
