Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko is a platformer game developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos Interactive. The game was released for the PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and the Game Boy Color.

Why It Rocks

  1. Now there's only 1 type of Remote Controller, which makes it more comfortable to collect them.
  2. The camera is significantly improved from Gex 2.
  3. Each level has 3 different missions to obtain Remote Controllers plus a 4th controller obtained by collecting 100 Fly coins.
    • The levels themselves are also uniquely different from one another.
  4. 3 separate hub worlds, each offering a 100-coin Remote Controller.
  5. Every level has 10 Paw coins, every time you get 25 of them Gex gains an additional Hit Point.
  6. Every level has a unique theme and Gex wears a unique costume for each. Some of which allow him to glide and even super strength.
  7. The "Bonus Bonanza" stages award the player with fun Cheat Codes.
  8. You only have to obtain 30 Controllers to fight the final boss so you're allowed to skip missions you don't want to play.
  9. The Nintendo 64 version has FMV, which is impressive considering not many N64 games had FMV due to cartridge limitations.
  10. The "Anime Channel" soundtrack is so frigging awesome!
  11. In the PlayStation version, the "Braveheartless" stage is a direct reference to Crystal Dynamics other game Akuji the Heartless (even Gex wears Akuji's outfit).
  12. Many levels revolve around special mechanics such as snowboarding, firing cannons, driving a tank, and even riding kangaroos, camels, donkeys, and crocodiles for more varied gameplay.

Bad Qualities

  1. Gex's constant one-liners can become annoying quickly. But you can turn them off if you want.
  2. There are exactly 100 Fly coins in each world which makes it tedious to find them all to get the 100 coin remotes.
  3. The Nintendo 64 version has considerable framerate issues.
  4. Agent Xtra is portrayed by a Playboy actress and the ending cutscene in the PlayStation Version has direct bestiality (Thankfully, the ending is offscreen).
  5. The "Marsupial Madness" music from both "Fairytales TV" and "Cheesy Rider" is incredibly annoying.
  6. The "Mythology Network" level can be considered the weakest level in the game.
  7. The Nintendo 64 version has been censored when compare to the PlayStation version (it is possibly due to some of the more graphic elements of the PlayStation levels, with "Dial "A" for Arson" featured a chalk-outlined dead body, and "Braveheartless" featured some skeletal imagery. Also, the sexual innuendos and exchanges between Gex and Agent Xtra were removed from the Nintendo 64 version.)
  8. The Game Boy Color port was terrible.
