Girl, Internetted is the nineteenth and second-to-last episode of the seventeenth season of Family Guy and was aired on Cinco De Mayo 2019 (May 5, 2019).
Plot
When Meg suddenly becomes internet famous, she and an excited Peter work together to build her following and create content for her new image that revolves around unhealthy eating. Meanwhile, Brian and Stewie revel in a new ride while Brian's car gets repaired.
Bad Qualities
- It's a classic case of staying relevant, much like in many of the newer Simpsons episodes.
- By relevant, there is an entire streaming-con going on, and the episode is about Meg becoming a viral streamer, which is pandering.
- At the same time, this episode is used just to pander the writers' viewpoint that Meg is "ugly" for no reason.
- The disgusting imagery of Meg eating raw bacon and then chugging two gallons of corn syrup.
- As if the scene described above wasn't gross enough, the gross close-up of Meg's gangerous feet is much more disgusting and are unnecessarily detailed, as all gross close-ups are. To rub salt in the wound, the gross close-up was shown twice.
- Toilet humor is somewhat rampant in this episode, like the scene dedicated to Meg's friends farting.
- The disgusting imagery of Meg eating raw bacon and then chugging two gallons of corn syrup.
- Meg's voice can come as somewhat annoying when she's broadcasting.
- Brian and Stewie's subplot about Brian owning a hummer, while half decent, takes up a lot of the main plot, making it how less focus is put.
- Lazy Ending: The episode ending is basically just Lois explaining what happens after the episode like, Meg got the janitor's feet, Brian and Stewie thrown in New Hampshire, Peter is a beam of light, and Chris has the Shining now.
Good Qualities
- The concept of one of the main characters unintentionally damaging their health just for online fame is actually an interesting concept for an episode but executed poorly due to this episode trying to stay relevant.
- In fact, this episode has a good moral at valuing your health rather than online fame.
- Some jokes are funny, like the scene where Peter "Han Solo-ed" himself in Magic shell, the scene where Peter posts Instagram stories of him getting kidnapped, and the Shining reference.
- While It does take up a lot of the main plot, Stewie and Brian's subplot about Brian owning a hummer is half decent.
- Sam Elliot voicing himself as the narrator.
Reception
- While the episode has a rating of 6.9/10 on IMDB, the episode garnered mixed reception towards fans of Family Guy. Some criticized it for its attempts at trying to stay relevant.[citation needed] PhantomStrider placed this episode as the fifth worst episode of Modern Family Guy.
