Godzilla is a 2014 video game developed by Natsume Atari and published by Bandai Namco Games for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 based on the Japanese monster Godzilla franchise by Toho. It was first released on December 18, 2014, in Japan only for the PlayStation 3. It was released on July 14, 2015, in North America and on July 17, 2015, in Europe. The Western PlayStation 4 version is based on the upgraded Japanese release called Godzilla VS, released on July 14, 2015, containing more content such as additional monsters.
Bad Qualities
- The main problem of this game is that it's repetitive to the extreme where it quickly gets boring. Not to mention, the game has several problems with this issue below.
- Poor graphics that look like sixth-generation games with low-quality texture and bad draw distance that can make it hard to see both the generators and the enemies.
- Clunky controls: Godzilla and other monsters are so sluggish because they use tank controls; while it makes sense since those of these are heavy, there is some issue with this control.
- There's no auto-targeting for flying enemies, making hitting the enemy aircraft difficult.
- There's no blocking of this game; you can block it by using the roar, but you can only time that was to feel like.
- There are tons of invisible walls, making this game lack freedom.
- Terrible voice actor for the English version that doesn't fit on this game; most infamously was G-Force Lady; every time you want to destroy the generator, the G-Force lady says, "Generator is losing power" constantly, which can quickly get on your nerves.
- Repetitive gameplay: Your objective is to destroy the generators, growing to make the monster bigger and fight the other monsters.
- Even for the sea level, the submarines are misleading as generators.
- There are only 3 offline modes that can be played as the same gameplay with some differences:
- God of Destruction mode is your playing as Godzilla and you do the same objective as mentioned above.
- Invasion and Defense are the same; the only difference is that the Defense mode protects the generator from the monsters while the Invasion mode is just like the God of Destruction mode, but you play as other monsters than Godzilla.
- King of the Kaiju has you playing as any Kaiju, fighting against several kaiju, but there's no reward in this game, which makes this mode pointless.
- Broken and unstable online multiplayer mode that is unplayable for this mode. Some player has higher levels because this online multiplayer mode doesn't have balancing matchmaking.
- Not to mention, the game doesn't have local multiplayer; the only to play multiplayer is online multiplayer, but you need PS Plus to play this, and yes, this online multiplayer is broken.
- If you want to upgrade your monster, you need to go to the evolution mode, then upgrade your monster selectable, and you don't just play God of Destruction mode or whatever, no! You must reboot your system and restart the game. This upgradeable system is pointless.
- The game is extremely short, for 1 hour long or less.
- There's a branching path where you want to good ending. The problem is the whole gameplay is unbalanced. Some stages are incredibly hard, others are either hard or easy because there's no balancing in this game.
- The good ending and bad ending are exactly pointless.
- If you want to good ending, you must bring the Godzilla to 100% and you're fighting against the Legendary Godzilla, but if you get a bad ending, it just abruptly ended, and that's it!
- The Kaiju guide is also pointless, you're just read about the monster, and yeah, just like that.
- Unbalanced characters: Some monsters like Mecha-Ghidorah are extremely overpowered, and others like Godzilla are useless.
- The PlayStation 3 version has less content compared to the PlayStation 4 version. Not to mention, but for some reason, the NA version was released digitally instead for PlayStation 3.
Good Qualities
- At least you can switch the voice track to Japanese to make it sound less annoying than the English version.
- The monster character models are great.
- Great soundtrack and the theme song is iconic, too, as the film played.
- The tutorial level is very interesting and you're reimagined to the 1954's Godzilla film in black and white.
- The cover art is cool.
- The monster roar is great, like in the film.
- The Diorama Mode is the best thing in this game; you can create your diorama, whatever you want, once you complete the game to unlock all of the monsters.
- Surprisingly good grasp of the source material.

The game received positive reviews in Japan; however, outside of Japan, it got hostile reviews from critics and criticism for repetitive gameplay, poor graphics, annoying voice acting, clunky controls, etc.
Some reviewers, like Monster Island Buddies, got a positive reception, while others, like Angry Joe, got a negative reception due to how bad this game is.
