Gone is the second part of the fourth episode from the 6th season of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Plot

SpongeBob wakes up to find Bikini Bottom deserted.

Why It's Lost

  1. It's an 11 minute cruel mean-spirited SpongeBob torture episode.
  2. Everyone except SpongeBob, Shelly, Bubble SpongeBob, Krabby Patty Patrick, and the Human racers are unlikable in this episode as they abandoned the sponge to the point to where they burnt a statue of him, meaning they want to kill him, and treated him like he never existed before or just didn't care about him and they thought that it was okay to abandon the guy and don't bring him along because of his flaws.
    • It would've made sense if it was just Squidward and Mrs. Puff because he lives with SpongeBob and because Mrs. Puff is his driving instructor, but it's very cruel to have the entire town do it just because they needed a break from him due to how "annoying" he is when in reality, he's just a nice guy.
  3. The writing is filled to the brim with filler, just like all of the episodes from the shows dark age such as:
    • SpongeBob pretending to be everyone in Bikini Bottom.
    • Him stealing a boat from his boating school, pretending it's his only best friend only to find out that Boaty is evil after realizing the Patrick dummy made out of Krabby Patties in the closet.
  4. Bad moral: It's okay to abandon someone because of their flaws.
  5. Half-bad ending: After Mr. Krabs explains the holiday called "National No SpongeBob Day" to SpongeBob, instead of being angry with the entire town, he became flattered that an entire holiday was dedicated to him despite it being mean-spirited. And even worse, they decided to celebrate "National No Patrick Day" after the latter suggested it (despite it being comeuppance for him for his part in celebrating the holiday), meaning that they did not learn their lesson.
    • Speaking of which, the holiday and the name "National No SpongeBob Day" alone is pretty dumb itself.
  6. With the exception of Patrick, none of the citizens got their comeuppance for how they treated SpongeBob, making them huge Karma Houdinis.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Patrick was the only character who got his comeuppance as he got abandoned.
  2. The title card is hilarious.
  3. SpongeBob, Shelly, Bubble SpongeBob, Krabby Patty Patrick, and the Human racers are all still likable characters here.
    • While Squidward SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs SpongeBob, Patrick SpongeBob, and Mrs. Puff SpongeBob are all fillers, they will most likely at least be tolerable here.
  4. Half-good ending: At least SpongeBob gave Patrick a taste of his own medicine by abandoning him.
  5. The animation is pretty decent as usual, like with all episodes in season 6.

Reception

Although it has a 7.1 rating on IMDB probably due to the episode "Not Normal", this episode has critically hated because of it’s mean-spirited tone and SpongeBob getting tortured.
