"Goodbye, Shizuka" is an episode from the 2005 series.

Plot

A depressed Nobita is walking home on the street, passing a cheerful couple pushing a baby trolley. He then encounters Shizuka who tries to greet him. Nobita panics, looks away and then sprints away, leaving her confused.

Why It Rocks

  1. It is one of the most emotional episode of the whole series, even though it is a big torture episode for Nobita and especially Shizuka.
  2. Most characters are likable, especially Doraemon and Shizuka, who try to not getting him in troubles because of the latter not wanting to talk to Shizuka because of being depressed.
  3. Good moral: Even if you're not feeling well, your friends still are with you and can understand your feeling, and another moral is that even if you're depressed, you should not run away.
  4. A decent story that is mean to had good morals even if Nobita can appear as unlikable due to how he react when Shizuka is there.
  5. The animation as usual is very well done, and so along with the voice acting.
  6. This episode show that Shizuka care about Nobita and the episode itself show how great their relationship actually is.
  7. A good ending where Nobita did know how much Shizuka care about him and they finally are in great relationship again, and the problems finally end.

Bad Qualities

  1. The infamous scene of Nobita blowing up Shizuka skirt out of anger, which rightfully made her slap him, also it is very innapropriate and out of place in a Doraemon episode, and would fit more in a Shin-Chan episode rather than Doraemon.
  2. For some peoples, the episode could appear as a huge torture episode because of Nobita being depressed and also because his other friends suffer from his fate too.
  3. The scene where Nobita use the gadget so that Shizuka "stop to love him" and that after that he suffer is kind of horrifying, even by Doraemon standards.
  4. It doesn't really know if it want to be a sad or dark episode as while Nobita is depressed, the fact that he doesn't want to talk to Shizuka just because he though that he wasn't a good boyfriend was just kind of not well put here because not only it did cause a lot of troubles but also it could probably ruin the emotional moments.

Reception

It had a score of 7.2 on IMDb.

Trivia

  • The story was later adapted in Stand by Me Doraemon.
  • Due to rating reasons, the scene where Nobita flips Shizuka's skirt was censored in some regions.
  • Water stains do not appear on Nobita and Shizuka for some reason, even though it is highly likely for the monitor to douse them both.
