Gorilla is the 12th episode of the 1st season of Teen Titans Go!.

Synopsis

Beast Boy has turned into a loud, obnoxious gorilla and refuses to change back, driving Robin crazy. Gorilla Beast Boy takes over the leadership of the Titans, leading to chaos, so Cyborg teaches Robin how to become an alpha male so he can reclaim his role as leader of the Teen Titans.

Why It Hates Bananas

  1. For starters, this is a Robin torture episode, mainly in the scenes where Beast Boy won't listen to Robin and the training scenes.
  2. The episode’s plot makes no sense and has a huge plot hole: What made Beast Boy want to turn into/stay as a gorilla? It was never explained and he just shows up as one at the beginning of the episode.
  3. Two unfunny running gags:
    • The stupid running gag of Beast Boy saying "Gorillas don't (insert what Robin said)"
    • An annoying running gag with Beast Boy throwing or dropping bananas at Robin for no reason.
  4. Speaking of Beast Boy, he’s at his absolute worst in this episode as he spends the grand majority of it acting like a soiled, entitled brat, keeps acting like he's the boss and wont morph back to he's normal self.
  5. Plot Holes: How did Beast Boy suddenly assert himself as the Titans’ leader? The whole gorilla hierarchy doesn’t explain it.
    • How was Raven able to slip on a banana peel if she was floating in the air?
    • If the Titans started acting like gorillas, how did they turn the tower into an overgrown jungle?
    • At the end of the episode, how was Cyborg able to act like a gorilla if he wasn't present during Beast Boy's animalistic influence?
  6. Hypocrisy: Beast Boy should’ve gotten arrested for controlling the Jump City Park. He even scared a little girl, who will eventually become a running gag in the series, where she screams whenever something “horrific” happens.
  7. The Titans suddenly acting like gorillas does not make sense either.
  8. The scene where Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire fight crocodile are looped more noticeably Raven and Starfire's.
  9. The training scenes are plain cruel, exemples include:
    • Cyborg tickling Robin and telling him not to laugh
    • or Cyborg telling Robin to take the tiger's dinner and getting mauled
    • or Cyborg telling Robin to clean an elephant and getting eaten
    • or Cyborg telling Robin to kiss every snake
    • also all of them have him saying "Do what I tell you!"
  10. Nonsensical Ending: Robin gets his position as Alpha but then Batman calls and Raven, Starfire and Cyborg act like gorillas and they smash the control panel.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Robin and Cyborg are the only likable characters because they were the only sane characters in this mess of an episode and do correct Beast Boy’s behavior.
  2. Beast Boy gets his commupence at the end of the episode because he gets tickled by Robin and get's rightfully yelled at.
  3. The Batman calling bit was cool.
  4. Cyborg expressing his hatred for bananas is admittedly hilarious.
    • "WHY?! BECAUSE I HATE BANANAS!"
