"What's under this mask....(takes off mask) is another mask!) - Kakashi

Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-Sensei's True Face!" (見たい、知りたい、確かめたい カカシ先生の素顔, Mitai, Shiritai, Tashikametai Kakashi-Sensei no Sugao) is episode 101 of the original Naruto anime.

Plot

Naruto had started the idea of finding out what was under Kakashi's mask, which the two others, Sakura and later Sasuke, agreed on after being persuaded by the former. However, they were no match against Kakashi as he threw them off his trail again and again. They soon had a low-rank mission to tend the farm. They didn't notice that the Moya Triad was following them, who wanted revenge on Kakashi. The trio were eventually uncovered and Kakashi left them tied up like he did three years ago. As the team left for Konoha after the mission, Naruto asked Kakashi outright what was under his mask. Kakashi agreed to show them, and each of them imagined what face their mentor has. After their intense anticipation, Kakashi finally took off his mask, only to reveal another mask underneath, making Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura fall to the ground in horror while Kakashi laughed.

Why This Filler Episode Done Right

  1. This episode is an example of a filler episode done right.
  2. Like usual, the animation and art style is great.
  3. Every character in this episode is likable, even Sakura. Even the villains like the Moya trio are likable.
  4. Tons of moments that will make you laugh, like the Ichiraku Ramen scene, the scene where Kakashi falls in love with a window display and the scene where the Moya trio are hanging from the roof and the laughing horse.
  5. The farm scene is also really great as it focuses on the Moya trio trying (and failing) to K.O. Kakashi and Team 7 trying to unmask Kakashi.
  6. The soundtrack is hilarious.
  7. This episode brings out Sasuke’s funny side, as opposed to his edgy and dark side, with him even joining Naruto and Sakura to
  8. The English and Japanese voice actors do a great job on this episode.
  9. Tons of memorable moments, especially the ending, speaking of which.
  10. Even the ending is funny, where Kakashi finally takes off his mask, only to reveal another one.
  11. "Okay, now I'm Curious?!"

Bad Qualities

  1. The ending, while funny, can be a bit anticlimatic.
  2. Sadly, the episode is non canon, in fact, this episode is filler like this mentioned above.
