Great Lakes Freakout! is the 21st episode of The LoudHouse. It's the second crossover between The Loud House and Casagrandres overall and the third Loud House crossover overall.

Bad Qualities

  1. The main problem is that the episode actually features actual zombies in a slice-of-life show, which is incredibly unfitting and unrealistic, especially for a show like The Loud House.
    1. If that wasn't enough, they decided to bring ghosts back, and although it was unconfirmed if they exist or not prior to "Ghosted!", they still portray them in a cartoonish and unrealistic way, similar to the episodes "Ghosted!", "A Flipmas Carol", "Cow Pie Kid", and "Haunted House Call".
    2. This also shows that the writers learned absolutely nothing from the episodes "Schooled!, "Family Bonding", "Ghosted!", "Blinded by Science", "Cow Pie Kid", "Saved by the Spell", "A Flipmas Carol", "Training Day", "Camped!", "Dream a Lily Dream", "Haunted House Call", "All the Rage", "Cat-astrophe", "Time Trap!", "Stroke of Luck", "Space Jammed", and "The Orchid Grief" which had similar and/or the same problems, except this time, the episode takes the problems from both of them and worsens them.
  2. Just like Schooled and Time Trap, this is yet, another episode that jumped the shark.
  3. Some characters are straight up unlikable and bad:
    1. Buzz, the ghost Lucy and the Morticians Club spawned in "Haunted House Call", is still the usual annoying character who likes to prank others in an unfunny way.
    2. Carl is not much better, as he decided to use Lucy's spell book to make the Casagrandes Mercado more scary.
  4. Overall, this was a sour way to bring back the Casagrandes family and several of its characters (other than Ronnie Anne, Sergio, and Bobby, and Rosa Casagrande, which returned prior to this episode) after their complete absence in the rest of season 4 after "Lucha Fever with the Casagrandes" (except for "Don't You Fore-Get About Me", where only Ronnie Anne, Sergio, Carlos, and Bobby (in picture only), season 5 except for Bobby and Sergio (with his feathers being shown in the season 5 premiere and the first half of season 6 and a massive amount of the second half of season 6 until "Forks and Knivies Out".
  5. One of the biggest criticisms of this episode is that despite this episode having the Louds and the Casagrandes competing, only Lincoln, Lori, Leni, Lucy, Lana, Lisa, Rita (in picture only), and Lynn Sr. (in picture only) are in this episode, while Luna, Luan, Lynn, Lola, Lily, Rita (outside of the aforementioned picture), and Lynn Sr. (in the aforementioned picture) appear, thus making the plot misleading. This shows that the writers learned absolutely nothing from "Diss the Cook" and "Flip This Flip".
    1. Even Frida has no lines in this episode as only makes expressions in this episode and is uncredited, and Carlitos is also absent, despite this being an episode with the Loud family and the Casagrandes family in it.
    2. Lana, despite still being likable, can be seen as pointless, as she disappears in the second half of the episode and doesn't appear again for the rest of the episode.
  6. Its yet another forced Lincoln-centered episode and Lisa-centered episode, being the twenty-first Lincoln-centered episode in season 6 after "Present Danger", "Don't Escar-Go", "Flip This Flip", "Save Royal Woods!", "The Taunting Hour", "Musical Chairs", "All the Rage", "Scoop Snoop", "Dine and Bash", "Sofa, So Good", "Driver's Dread", "Bummer Camp", "Sleepstakes", "Time Trap!", "Crashed Course", "Lights, Camera, Nuclear Reaction", "Save the Last Pants", "A Stella Peformance", "The Orchid Grief", and "Forks and Knives Out", and being the twenty-first Lisa-centered episode in season 6 after "Present Danger", "Flip This Flip", "Save Royal Woods!", "The Taunting Hour" , "Eye Can't", "Dine and Bash" , "Sofa, So Good", "The Last Laugh" , "Driver's Dread" , "Bummer Camp" , "Sleepstakes" , "Time Trap!", "Crashed Course, "Lights, Camera, Nuclear Reaction", "Space Jammed", "The Orchid Grief", and "The Loud Cloud".

Good Qualities

  1. Aside from Sergio, Carl, and Buzz, most of the characters such as Lincoln himself for example, are still likable and retain their charm.
  2. The concept of a market competition with the Halloween theme is a very solid idea, even if it was badly executed.
  3. It is admittedly nice to see, the Casagrandes, and Buzz again.
  4. Some funny jokes here and there like the Louds and Casgrandes thinking that the zombies aren't real zombies with Carlota pulling his arm off, Bobby using his music speakers to defeat the zombies and Rosa using her horchata to disintegrate the zombies.

Reception

With a 5.7/10 on IMDb, Great Lakes Freakout! is often considered as the worst Halloween special of The Loud House and also one of the weakest episodes of the show.

Trivia

  • This is the first episode to air after the cancellation of The Casagrandes.
    • Coincidentally the previous episode (in production order and broadcast order) "The Loud Cloud"/"You Auto Know Better" aired on the same day as The Casagrandes series finale "Flock This Way"/"Movers and Fakers".
    • In addition, this is the only episode to premiere on the interim between the respective runs of The Casagrandes and The Really Loud House.
  • Mr. Hong and Ernesto Estrella appear in this episode, thus making them the first characters who made their first appearances in The Casagrandes to appear in The Loud House.
