Gummibär: The Yummy Gummy Search for Santa is a 2012 direct-to-DVD animated film produced by Lionsgate Entertainment, based on the viral German character Gummibär.

Plot

Santa has been kidnapped by an alien. Gummibär and his friends must find and save Santa so that everyone will have presents on Christmas.

Warum es nicht lecker ist (Why It's Not Yummy)

A movie based on a character like Gummibär is a questionable idea, considering his lack of relevance and commercial success since 2007.
An unoriginal story where Gummibär and his friends are saving Santa from aliens.
Gummibär's speaking voice is that of an American child, which is quite strange because Gummibär's voice is a high-pitched adult voice.
Gummibär himself looks out of place alongside new characters like Harry the chameleon, Kala the cat, and Vampiro the vampire bat, as Harry and Vampiro look like Yooka-Laylee rejects and Kala looks like a Star Fox reject.
A really disturbing opening scene where Gummibär has a nightmare where Santa gets killed when a Christmas tree falls on him, causing Gummibär to scream in horror.
Several filler scenes, such as Gummibär fishing with Santa and driving around the North Pole.
The humour falls flat, as such scene where Gummibär tells children not to pilot a plane without their parents' permission and Vampiro frequently obsesses over his juice box.
- Some lines in this movie are also rather cringe-worthy, such as "YOU JUST GOT SCHOOLED, BOIIIIIIIII".
There is a scene in which several caribou drink alcohol and gamble in a movie for kids.
If you like Gummibär's songs, you will be disappointed because many of them are cut off before finishing.
Scenes are poorly edited, with obvious jump-cuts between frames during certain scenes, like Gummibär's jump during the "I'm a Gummy Bear" song.
Poor and clunky animation, with bland and mediocre graphics.
In one certain scene of Vampiro flying, they reverse the footage as a landing.
Bad voice acting.
The film constantly reuses assets. For example, in two shots of Santa flying, the starry night background is the same, but the second one has the moon.
Mediocre and uninspiring plot: just Gummibär and his cohorts rescuing Santa from kidnappers.
The editing gets so bad that some scenes are actually out of order. There’s one scene where Allen pulls out a DDR board after Gummibär’s dance routine, but instead of reacting to the board, the characters comment on how good Gummibär’s dancing is as if he’s still going.
False advertising: The poster says that it "Includes the hit song 'I am a Gummy Bear,'" but the movie doesn't have the full song, as the song is cut off when an elf takes the radio from Kala.
The movie has an abundance of animation errors, such as how in one scene, the camera clips through the Gummibär's plane model.
Kala’s design is a bit sexual for a kids movie.
Unnecessary pop culture references like the MGM logo reference at the beginning.

Erlösenden Qualitäten (Redeeming Qualities)

There is one decent joke, in which Kala says that she's spent enough time with Vampiro to know what stupid is, and Vampiro doesn't react.
When the plane crash lands on the island, the way the sand reacts is surprisingly well-animated, and is looks better than its film's animation itself.
Not a bad soundtrack, even though many of Gummibär's songs are cut off before finishing, as mentioned above.
Dancin’ Dancin’ (What I Need) and You Know It's Christmas at least are the only Gummibär's songs that weren't cut off before finishing.
From this film, the song Lucky Star was first shown, which later became available on Gummibär – Party Pop CDS.

Trivia

The film was released in theatres in Greece.
Another Gummibär movie called "Gummibär 3D" was announced in 2014 starring John Travolta, it was planned to be released in a movie theatre, but it was never released.
