Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a 1982 American science fiction horror film and the third installment in the Halloween film series. It is the first film to be written and directed by Tommy Lee Wallace. John Carpenter and Debra Hill, the creators of Halloween and Halloween II.
Summary
Kids all over America want Silver Shamrock masks for Halloween. Doctor Daniel Challis seeks to uncover a plot by Silver Shamrock owner Conal Cochran.
Why It Rocks
- Thought it never completely happened, the idea of the Halloween franchise being an anthology series is amazing.
- It is a breath of fresh air from the previous two films as it contains more sci-fi and supernatural elements.
- The idea of a corrupt company that creates masks and kills anyone who wears one is very original writing.
- The actors give some very decent performances, especially Tom Atkins as Daniel and Dan O’Herlihy as Conal Cochran.
- Even though Michael Myers is not in this movie, Conald Cochran and the business he runs (The Silver Shamrock Company) are very entraining and sinister antagonists.
- Several people who were involved with the original 1978 Halloween (Tommy Lee Wallace, Debra Hill, John Carpenter and Nancy Kyes/Annie Brackett and Jamie Lee Curtis) have also taken part in this film as either a director, producer or actor and they all do a great job at their respective positions.
- Speaking of which, there is a nice reference to the original film as a commercial for it is shown on a television at one moment.
- The commercial jingle for The Silver Shamrock Company is surprisingly catchy.
- Excellent character and story development.
Bad Qualities
- The movie hasn’t gotten a lot of well-received praise as many criticized for lacking Michael Myers and differing from the other films in the Halloween franchise.
- Depending on your view, the Silver Shamrock song can get annoying.
