Happy Wheels is a ragdoll physics-based platform game created by Jim Bonacci. The first level, Happy Green Hills was released around 2006 but the main game and level editor was released sometime around 2010. It was eventually released on iOS in 2015 and Android in 2020.
Why It's Bloody Fun
- Amazing physics and platforming skills.
- Multiple characters to play with, which all have different abilities.
- Wheelchair Guy: The face of Happy Wheels, an old man with a wheelchair that has a rocket attatched to the wheels. The wheelchair is initially slow but the rocket can be activated manually letting him reach fast speeds and is rotatable enabling him to fly, but this is hard to manoeuvre.
- Segway Guy: A fairly middle aged man with a segway. His segway can jump and he is able to keep the vehicle balanced. He is another popular character because his jumping segaway is useful for crossing gaps, hazards and can jump to eject himself. But compared to other characters, his Segway always is in an upright position making it harder to go up slopes or escape through tight situations as he is unable to flip it.
- Irresponsible Dad: One of the most popular character of Happy Wheels. The Dad is a cyclist who has a BMX which carries his child son. He is a popular choice due to his fair speed and easy to control bike that can ride most inclines. He can even launch his child to bait traps like landmines or harpoon guns.
- Effective Shopper: An obese woman with a mobility scooter. Has a jump ability like Segway guy and similar controls to Irresponsible Dad although slightly slower. However, her obesity lets her to be able to survive in which she can take multiple harpoon shots or high falls (if her head isn't hit first).
- Moped Couple: A couple riding a moped bike. The bike is outfitted with a nitro boost.
- Lawnmower Guy: A man that drives a rideable lawnmower. His vehicle is very sturdy which also jumps, and is able to grind ragdolls into bits of blood. And similar to effective shopper, he is a hardy character to kill.
- Explorer Guy: A guy in a minecart. He is one of the fastest characters in the game with his minecart reaching high accelaration, limitless top speed and can be magnetically stick to iron rails, but however his high speeds make him uncontrollable and prone to crashing.
- Santa Claus: The largest character in the game, he rides his sleigh which is controlled by two elves hauling it (can still control if the elves die) and has an ability which makes them hover for a short time.
- Pogo Guy: The more unusual characters of this game, this man has a pogostick enabling him to jump over obstacles higher than Segway and has very flexible air control than other characters. His mobility makes him favourable in obstacle courses since he is also able to squeeze in gaps without losing his ride and can preform techniques like wall-jumps or long jumps.
- Irresponsible Mom: She is a mother with one daughter and a baby. The daughter's bike is attached to the mother and the baby rides in the basket of the main bike.
- Helicopter Guy: The only true flying character and the latest character added, Helicopter guy's vehicle is a large seat with rotor blades and a small magnet hook attached. His hook can pick up any objects including NPCs and like Lawnmower man can chop off human ragdolls with his rotors although they are prone to breaking from durable objects.
- Simple but detailed art style and concept.
- Endless game since many new levels are made each day.
- Featured levels for the most part are usually good and provide a reasonable challenge.
- A fairly simple to use level editor with a fairly sizeable content range for your level.
- Amazing looking gore and particles.
- Customizable blood, so you can choose to turn off blood or to put it in a more liquid form.
- Moderation and server load time has improved since 2012, and it is now very hard to encounter server errors and the amount of fake glitch levels have decreased since 2015 as well.
"OH MY LEG!" Qualities
- Level quality has decreased within the years. It is now harder to find a very detailed level, especially since most levels nowadays are pogo fights, ball/sword throws, or rope swings, with some also including text to abuse the rating system. There are still reasonable amounts of good levels though, and a few featured users still makes levels today, even if it's once in a blue moon.
- Since Jim is more focused on making the sequel, the game hasn't received a major update since 2016 and a new character since 2013.
- The engine has mediocre optimization, it can be laggy with slightly above moderate amount of objects and lots of blood effects.
