"Hazuki-chan is Kidnapped!" is the 19th episode of Ojamajo Doremi.
Plot
Hazuki is kidnapped by a couple of desperate comedians and its up to Doremi and Aiko to save her. But are the brothers really that bad?
Why It Should Not Be Kidnapped
- The story is very interesting for this episode, even by Ojamajo Doremi standards, since here it is about kidnapping a kid so that the comedians brothers became superstar but despite having guns, they aren't actually bad.
- The characters are all likable, even despite the fact that Doremi and Aiko did unfairly punish the Papaya brothers that were just try to get more attentions as comedians.
- The Papaya brothers are actually likable despite kidnapping Hazuki since they just don't know how to become superstar, and are just try to get more attentions, also despite kidnapping her, they didn't harmed her, even at the beginning.
- Doremi and Aiko also care much about Hazuki being kidnapped, and while they didn't know that they didn't did it for doing bad things, at least they redeem themself at the end when they did throw them in a tree with their magics.
- Hazuki is easily the most likable as always, and mostly doesn't do anything bad at all, she even save the Papaya brothers at the end of the episode from the tree.
- While the story is mean to be serious, it still had plenty of funny moments and the episode isn't really dark in comparison to some other episodes, such as when the comedians brothers do comedy that is unintentionally hilarous despite being mean to be not good.
- Good animation as usual and it improve a bit over the previous episodes, even if later seasons would be even better than this, also as always the color palette is really colorful and if you upscale the quality, then it look real good.
- It show that despite being a kid show, it can still had enough dark elements such as kidnapping or the guns.
- There's two good morals in this episode.
- It show that you should be careful when you talk to an unknow person and that you should never get to their cars unless they are worthy of being good persons.
- The second is that you should never kidnap someone or else you will be in big troubles, even if it's for having help for something.
- The scene where Hazuki ask the queen of bricking back her witch powers is somewhat touching, especially that she ask it for saving the brothers to fall.
- Good Ending: The Papaya brothers did bring back Hazuki at her house and promised to never kidnap anyone anymore, and we can see Doremi, Hazuki and Aiko watching the brothers comedy at the TV.
Bad Qualities
- The 4Kids dub of this episode is terrible and was horribly downgraded into a plot that is based on spending time with Hazuki uncle rather than a kidnapping.
- The Papaya brothers would unfortunately not appear after this episode, which is a shame because they are hilarous characters.
- While not a bad premise, depending on the childrens, the scenes where the brothers had the gun at Hazuki head can be slightly disturbing for some very young childrens, even if they didn't mean to shoot her.
- While those scenes are still good, the scenes where Doremi and Aiko do magics can become very repetitive because they do it a lot in one part of the episode, howewer it was mostly because they tried to found a way to save Hazuki.
Reception
This episode reception is positive, and is considered to be one of the best from season 1, it had a score of 8/10 on IMDb.
