Hellboy: Dogs of the Night (known as Hellboy: Asylum Seeker on the PS1) is an action game developed by Cryo Studios North America and published by Cryo Interactive for the Microsoft Windows only in Europe. After Cryo's bankruptcy, Hoplite Research developed the PlayStation version and DreamCatcher Interactive published in 2003 as Hellboy: Asylum Seeker only in North America. It is based on the Hellboy comic book series from Dark Horse.

Why It Sucks

  1. Awful graphics, with everything consisting of blocky polygons and flat textures. The PS1 version looks much worse especially for an extremely late release on the console.
  2. Questionable platform choice: The PlayStation 1 was nearing the end of its life cycle in favor of the PS2, so releasing this game on the platform was not a good idea.
  3. Awful collision detection, with your character often walking through solid objects. It is also difficult to walk down stairs.
  4. Bad controls.
  5. Bad, repetitive music and sound effects.
  6. Ridiculous script.
  7. Hellboy must manually open locked doors using a key, when he should be strong enough to smash them open with his right arm which has the Right Hand of Doom attached.
  8. Speaking of the Right Hand of Doom, his attacks are so weak to the point that even when using the Right Hand of Doom it takes minutes to defeat enemies, even the first enemies take minutes to defeat. He couldn't be more out of character than this.
