Well, to start with, don't even bother finishing half the animation for the episode. Just release it even more half-done than usual. Then turn this soiled, decrepit pile of junk into the worst clip show ever. You now have Sonic: Hero of the Year." - PhantomStrider, 2019

"Hero of the Year" is the sixtieth episode of the first season of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Plot
Wes Weasely gets his limousine hijacked by Scratch and Grounder, so he signals for Sonic's help. Sonic and Tails arrive to find Wes Weasely tied up. Sonic goes after Scratch and Grounder while Tails unties Wes Weasely. Insisting on showing his gratitude for Sonic, Wes Weasely tells Tails to gather all of Sonic's friends for a surprise testimonial dinner in Sonic's honor onboard Wes Weasely's personal ship.
Why It Isn't The Hero Of The Year
- The story is just hopeless and uncreative like almost all Clip Show episodes are.
- It also contains a lot of filler and tons of worthless padding from Sonic's friends. The filler is more present when Sonic and friends get drowned while Robotnik's clip show plays.
- It recycles the clips from older episodes in a clumsy and flimsy way, making this episode even lazier.
- Many of the jokes of this episode are not funny and don't work at all (not even in a comically absurd way either!).
- The infamous image of Robotnik being shown wearing a bikini that was pointlessly shown twice is very awkward, disturbing and cringe-worthy (even more so than previous instances of him wearing somewhat inappropriate and revealing clothing).
- Plus, considering that he is not a woman nor a good-looking person at all, this comes off as extreme fan disservice to see a half-naked, obese, mustached man wearing a purple bra and panties in a kids' cartoon. As a result, it feels like it appeals to kinky or perverted people who have fetishes for fat people regardless of intention, while fetishes or kinks aren't necessarily a bad thing if it doesn't harm anyone but they shouldn't be placed in cartoons that are aimed at kids.
- The animation is even lazier and awkwardly over-the-top than the past episodes were. The backgrounds can simply change to black or white in a close-up.
- Most of the side characters that appeared for Sonic's ceremony after the clip show starts either get two or six frames of animation being another example.
- Speaking of the animation, the framerate gets even more choppy, limited, and rushed after Robotnik's clip show plays.
- Both Sonic and Robotnik are out of character by voice and behavior, in a rather confusing (and baffling) way.
- Sonic isn't like his generally mischievous and seemingly quick-thinking self who uncharacteristically accepted Robotnik's request to be drowned along with Sonic's friends (he is heroic at the end of the episode but it's still not justified for why he simply gave himself up in a mind-blowingly stupid way).
- Robotnik became weirdly mellow, was nearly kind to both his henchmen & Weasely (which is kind of nice to see), and he acts a lot more constrained & restrained than how boisterous and hammy he generally is. Especially how he sounds FAR less maniacal and exaggerated than usual, in a noticeable way no-less.
- Scratch and Grounder are far less comical & charming than usual, and their idiotic antics are somehow a whole lot more annoying and unfunny than before.
Redeeming Qualities
- At least it does make newer fans of the show can keep up with the series judging by the past episodes added in.
- The Sonic Says segment at the end is passable enough since it teaches that alcohol is not good for you and your health.
Trivia
- This episode was supposed to be aired as its last episode broadcast-wise, up there with Sonically Ever After.
- The infamous image of Robotnik being seen in a bikini became an internet joke in later years {i.e SMG4's video "Sonic the derphog: Eggventure (GET IT!?)"}.
- It also appears in TVTropes's main page of Fan Disservice.
