"Hoenn Alone!" (Japanese title: ピカチュウとのわかれ…! Parting with Pikachu…!) is the 274th episode of Pokémon, as well as the final episode of the original series.

Plot

Ash sets off for his journey to the Hoenn region, but a failed Team Rocket scheme to capture Pikachu ends up causing the electric-mouse Pokémon to fall gravely ill.

Why It Should Be Left Alone

  1. This episode's plot is boring, weak and Mean Spirited as it's a Pikachu torture episode.
  2. This is the only episode of the original series where Misty doesn't appear. While her absence is justified, the fact that she isn't even mentioned is inexcusable, because she was by Ash's side in all previous episodes.
  3. Lots of unnecessary filler.
  4. The scene where Team Rocket tries to overload Pikachu's electricity using an electromagnet looks very cruel and drastic, like a torture scene.
    • Moreover, this scene can be very disturbing and unsuitable for children.
  5. Awful ending: The episode, as well as the whole original series as whole, ends with Pikachu getting gravely ill with severe fever, which puts his life in danger. This is not the ending the fans would expect.
  6. It ended the entire original series on a very negative outlook.
  7. The English title is just a Home Alone ripoff.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The voice acting is very good in both Japanese and English versions.
  2. Team Rocket fails to capture Pikachu once again.
  3. Ash, Pikachu and Officer Jenny are still likable.
