Home Toy is the eighth episode of Lu & the Bally Bunch and the eighth episode overall.

Plot

Lu gets upset when she loses Declan's special toy.

Why It Should've Stayed Home

  1. Awfully dumb writing by the show's creator, Nicky Phelan and Jo Clegg and the directing by Pete McEvoy because of all the qualities shown below. What's not helping is that this episode is a reworked version of the lost 2021 pilot, "Ladybird Lu", and it was the first episode to be pitched for Cartoonito, so if this episode was produced in production order, this episode could be an annoying way to start the show.
    • Jo Clegg is most especially guilty of this, because she's best known for her work on a few CBeebies shows such as Hey Duggee. But as for this episode, it comes off as wasted talent for her.
  2. Lu and Declan are both stupid in this episode:
    • Lu wanted to play with Super Slug, but Shella told her that she can't because it's against the rules to bring owned toys to Shell School, but does she do that? No. She got too curious enough to pick it up from the shelf Shella placed it on, and put it on a toy car, raced with it only for the car to bump into the shelf, causing the action figure to slide right underneath. She also tried to pull the toy out from the under the shelf, but it's a little too far from her reach. And after she told Shella and Declan the truth, she ends up crying like a baby.
    • It's Declan's fault for bringing Super Slug to school, and he could've just stood near the shelf so he can watch and make sure Lu nor the other bugs would try to play with it behind his back, rather than just leave it alone, and when he found out, his response?: He starts wailing like a baby, too.
  3. Shella is also no better because when she told Declan that he can't play with it here, she placed it on top of the shelf as a safe place so it doesn't get lost. The problem here is, the top of the shelf is not a safe place to put a toy on to begin with, and sure enough, it got lost under the shelf thanks to Lu's temptation. And after Lu told the truth and she and Declan cried their eyes out, not only does she not scold the both of them for sobbing wildly over a toy under a shelf, she also doesn't scold Lu for sneakily playing with it out of Declan's sight, and Declan for not keeping watch on his toy. Shella, have you ever heard of what the term, firm means?
  4. Lu and Declan start crying their eyes out over the fact the toy is gonna be stuck under the shelf forever as if it's the only last thing to do. It's extremely annoying to listen to.
    • The way Declan cries the first time sounds like as if he's screaming.
  5. Irony: Instead of just using one of the train track pieces to get Super Slug out, why couldn't they just push the shelf out of the way?
    • And also, why couldn't Lu and Declan think of doing that before instead of blubbering like crazy? Or Lu couldn't have also just pushed the shelf out of the way by herself before Declan found out?
  6. Really bad lines said by Lu, Declan and Shella:
    • Da-da-da! Watch me go! (pushes the toy car right towards the shelf, causing Super Slug to fall off and slide right under the shelf) (gasps) Oh no! Come back, Super Slug! Oh, no, no, no, no, no! (tries to get Super Slug, but to no avail rather than pushing the shelf aside) Oh, no, no, no, no, no!
    • (gasps loudly) Super Slug is gone! Where is he?!
    • Super Slug is missing! (Cries uglily)
    • I was playing with him just for one little go, and he fell underneath, and now he's stuck! (Gus, Biba, Barnaby and Elodie gasp, and then Lu walks over to Shella's arms, crying)
    • You weren't supposed to play with him! He's not yours.
    • I know. I'm sorry. (She and Declan cry like it's the end of the world)
    • Alright, alright. You're both upset because Super Slug is stuck.
    • I never should have brought Super Slug to school.
    • I never should have played with him.
  7. This episode tries to teach viewers a lesson about learning to follow the rules, but this whole episode had nothing to do with it. Unlike other episodes of shows that did use that lesson.
  8. Not only that, there's also a bad moral: If you can't get a toy out from under the shelf, cry about it.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. Lu's parents, Gus, Biba, Barnaby and Elodie are the only tolerable characters.
