HooDoo You Like? is the 15th episode of the second volume and 42nd episode of the Monster High web series, being part of Volume 2 and originally premiered on May 19, 2011, on YouTube.

Plot

Frankie begins to feel left out for being the only one not involved in romance other than her friends, in which Frankie lies claiming to have a boyfriend. Desperate Frankie decides to build her own boyfriend to try to convince her friends that she has a boyfriend.

Why We'll Never Like This Clawful Episode

  1. The episode begins with an unnecessary scene where it shows Toralei making fun of Cleo and Lagoona taking offense at it. The episode could very well have started with Lagoona sitting with her friends at the cafeteria table.
  2. This episode is known to have introduced the awful character Hoodude Voodoo who unfortunately remains a regular character on the series.
  3. Plot hole: Frankie feels excluded from the group for being the only one not to be involved in romance, but Clawdeen also doesn't have a boyfriend. It would make more sense if Draculaura were present in this episode instead of Clawdeen.
  4. Frankie acts in a kind of schizophrenic way in this episode since to want to convince her friends that she has a boyfriend she makes a rag doll to try to fool her friends and keeps dragging him pretending he has life and talks to her. Of course, Hoodude later reveals that he has a life of his own, but Frankie didn't know that until the end of the episode.
  5. Speaking of the fact that Hoodude was practically created by Frankie it's also disturbing to imagine the fact that he was serving as Frankie's boyfriend in this episode, since Frankie is practically THE MOTHER of Hoodude Voodoo.
    • By the way, why would Frankie want a voodoo doll as her boyfriend?
  6. The episode also makes a reference to Justin Bieber, and the episode was aired at a time when Bieber was already involved in controversy for his bad attitudes.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Decent ending: Frankie learns that she doesn't need to have a boyfriend to keep talking and interacting with her friends.
  2. The final scene in Frankie and her friends are amazed to discover that Hoodude reveals a life of his own is funny.

Notes

References

  • The title refers to the 1956 Bo Diddley song "Who Do You Love?".
  • The scene of Frankie entering the creepateria with Hoodude is inspired by the cafeteria scene from the 1995 movie The Brady Bunch Movie.
  • The Wilhelm scream plays when Frankie pierces Hoodude's heart with a pin.
  • As Hoodude runs away, everyone says, "It's alive!", in reference to the famous line from the 1931 movie adaption of Frankenstein.

Continuity

  • This is the first time Toralei's ability to mimic other people's voices perfectly comes up in the cartoon. It won't be done again until the TV special "Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love?".
  • Frankie hasn't relied on a magazine to guide her through her teenager years since "A Scare of a Dare".
  • Gil's lie will come to an end in "Fear the Book".
  • Hoodude Voodoo's SDCCI diary greatly expands on what exactly brought him alive, what happened after he ran away, and why he thinks he and Frankie belong together.
  • Frankie will learn nothing from her experience with creating new life and carelessly do it again in "Home Ick".

Milestones

  • Hoodude Voodoo and the short lunch lady make their cartoon debuts.

Errors

  • In the opening scene, Meowlody's and Purrsephone's skirts are animated as shorts.
