How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a children's story by Dr. Seuss written in rhymed verse with illustrations by the author. It follows the Grinch, a grumpy, solitary creature who attempts to put an end to Christmas by stealing Christmas-themed items from the homes of the nearby town Whoville on Christmas Eve. Miraculously, the Grinch realizes that Christmas may not all be about money and presents.

Why It's Anything But A Mean One

  1. Some likable characters, like The Grinch, Max, and Cindy Lou Who.
  2. The idea of a mean character wanting to steal everyone's cheer is actually quite an interesting concept.
  3. The Grinch thankfully redeemed himself at the end of the story where his heart grew bigger to the point where he became nice and stopped his plan.
  4. The Chuck Jones TV special, the Halloween-themed sequel, and the Cat in the Hat crossover do the book justice with how faithful they are to the character.
  5. The ending, where the Grinch is invited to celebrate Christmas with The Whos, was heartwarming. It also gives The Grinch some character development.
  6. The story has a little nice lesson about how Christmas isn't about presents but rather about family.
  7. The "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" song at the end of the story was pretty catchy.

The Only Bad Quality

  1. The 2000 live-action film and the 2018 animated film adaptations weren’t that good, as the former was too scary and the latter was too boring.
