iCarly is an American comedy revival series based on the 2007 Nickelodeon TV series of the same name. The series stars Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor, Nathan Kress, Laci Mosley and Jaidyn Triplett, with Cosgrove, Trainor and Kress reprising their roles from the original series, Jennette McCurdy and Noah Munck does not return in the series due to they we're ashamed of their roles. In October 2023, the series was canceled after three seasons, leaving the series on a cliffhanger.
Plot
Carly, Spencer and Freddie are back, navigating the next chapters in their lives and facing the uncertainties of life in their 20s.
iWhy It Rocks
- The new characters are hilarious, especially Harper. Sadly, Sam isnât there but her absence was explained, and Jennette McCurdy (Samâs actress) quit acting due to her mental health issues and as well as the embarrassment of her previous roles, which is basically understandable since she doesn't want her reputation to be seen as a short-tempered bully (also considering the fact she played Samâs flanderized self in Sam & Cat, in which Sam became a complete short-tempered bully).
- While she had a bad start as a complete brat in the first season, Millicent seems to have thankfully improved in season 2, becoming more tolerable as she grew closer to her family, started to become more nicer to everyone (including Carly), and is less bratty now.
- It's an improvement over the terrible spin-off Sam & Cat.
- Carly, Spencer and Freddie still have the same personalities from the original series.
- The acting is still great.
- Some funny quotes such as âYou gotta switch it up on a bitch!â.
- The new sets are amazing.
- Has the same theme song as the original.
- Really great writing.
- Old characters from the original like, Marissa, Nora, & most importantly, Nevel, have returned for a cameo appearance or the occasional spotlight. Speaking of which, Marissa has become more likable than in the original series, being a more tolerable mother to Freddie and a loving grandmother to Millicent.
- We finally get to see Skybucks Coffee after having it only mentioned in the original series.
- Even if the transition music isn't the same, it's still really catchy.
- âiReturn to Webiconâ was a very hilarious episode and a great way to end season 1.
- Seasons 2 and 3 are massive improvements over season 1.
- Finally, after 15 episodes, Gibby was finally mentioned for the first time in the episode iObject, Lewbert!.
iBad Qualities
- It's not quite as strong as the original series, despite its faithfulness to it.
- Millicent is an extremely unlikable character, as sheâs a total brat towards Freddie and Carly (mostly Carly).
- Thankfully, she seems to have improved in season 2.
- Spencer and Carly were really unlikable in âiFauxpologizeâ (while still a good episode), as they were very mean spirited towards each other.
- Even though this may be a nitpick, the show isn't best suited for younger fans of the original show, since there is some language and a ton of adult themes and scenarios that fall under being too risqué for them, which ended up getting the show banned in Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and so on.
- Season 1 while well received, it is arguably considered to be the weakest season.
- Some episodes can be boring occasionally.
- Sam Puckett and Gibby Gibson, who were in the original cast did not return for guest appearances in the revival.
- This is due to the fact that their actors, Jennette McCurdy and Noah Munck, were ashamed of their roles.
- While Sam received several shoutouts in season 1, she did not get any mentions at all in season 2.
- While Gibby finally received a mention in season 2, his whereabouts are still unknown.
- As mentioned above, while catchy, the transition screen music is not the same. Plus, after the first episode, the original theme song was shortened.
- However, the theme was shortened throughout the last two seasons.
- Though thankfully the theme song went back to normal in Episode 13, probably because it was the season finale.
- However, the theme was shortened throughout the last two seasons.
- The iCarly webshow isn't as prominent as it was in the original series.
- It unfortunately got cancelled (for unknown reasons) after three seasons, despite ending on a cliffhanger, meaning the iCarly franchise ended on a sour note and should've had a better conclusion.
- To make matters even worse, Carly and Spencer's mother are introduced in this episode and previous episodes (as well as the original iCarly series) ignore the events entirely, meaning that one can skip this episode without missing anything important at all.
Reception
iCarly (2021 Revival) received mixed-to-positive reviews, the show currently has a 6.7/10 on IMDb with over 2,000 ratings. However the fact the show is cancelled without proper conclusion was disappointing for fans.
