Ice Age: Scrat Tales is an American animated streaming television series for Disney+. It is the first Ice Age series and the last project to be made by Blue Sky Studios.

Plot

The shorts follow Scrat going through fatherhood after meeting Baby Scrat.

Why It Deserves A Nut

  1. The idea of giving Scrat his own spin-off story is unique and is executed well, unlike The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (Buck getting his own spin-off was a great idea on paper as well, it could have been the Puss in Boots of Ice Age, but the execution was really bad due to Crash and Eddie being the central characters instead of Buck himself, which is fixed in Ice Age: Scrat Tales) since Scrat has his own focus on the ups and downs of being a father of Baby Scrat.
  2. It brings back one of the most popular Ice Age characters ever, Scrat.
  3. Scrat finally comes back after being absent in The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild and is restored to his normal self from the first four Ice Age films.
  4. It manages to still use some of Blue Sky Studios' animation. Also, the animation is a nice step up from The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild since it looks cinematic and beautiful.
  5. This is the first Ice Age series for Disney+ and it is executed well since it doesn't look rushed and instead it looks like it took time.
  6. Interesting plots about Scrat trying to take good care of Baby Scrat and it doesn't involve any boring or Sci-fi plot points, just in the time period Scrat Tales took place. Also, while a bit out of place, the fourth wall joke where Scrat screams so much through the universe that it goes through real life for seconds is funny.
  7. It saved the Ice Age franchise unlike The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, making Ice Age: Scrat Tales the best Ice Age media since Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
  8. No Ice Age character apart from Scrat shows up, making it feel more like an actual spin-off, similar to Puss in Boots, unlike Buck Wild that featured an unnecessary appearance of Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, and Momma Dino.
  9. Baby Scrat is extremely adorable and easily the best addition to the franchise since Granny and Shira in Ice Age: Continental Drift (despite its flaws).
  10. The series take a new light on Scrat as he meets and adopts Baby Scrat, showing he doesn't only care about acorns. If Baby Scrat was Scrat's biological son, taking care of him would be Scrat's responsibility, but he isn't, and Scrat still choose to take care of this orphan baby squirrel nonetheless, showing some character development for Scrat, and their relationship is very heartwarming like Scrat's relationship with Scratte from Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (when the acorn is not around).
  11. While it comes at the expense of making Scrat and Baby Scrat unlikable at some points, the torture Scrat suffers in the series is actually justified, unlike all the other Ice Age medias, due to how mean he can be to Baby Scrat because of the acorn, although Baby Scrat can also do horrible things to his adoptive father because of the acorn and never gets any comeuppance for it.
  12. This is a nice way to end Blue Sky Studios, just like Spies in Disguise.
  13. While "Nut the End" is terrible, here's a hilarious twisted ending, where Scrat ate up his acorn, before he chases Baby Scrat.

Bad Qualities

  1. Despite being played for laughs, Scrat and Baby Scrat's obsession for the acorn often ruins the relationship, just like what it did with Scrat and Scratte in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. However, the final episode shows that even without the acorn, both Scrat and Baby Scrat can get along better without the acorn which ended the series on a good note.
    • Speaking of which, Baby Scrat can get very unlikable at times, especially in "Nut the End" short where he sets a trap to kill Scrat, who adopted and took care of him, just so he can have the acorn all to himself. Unlike Scrat, Baby Scrat never gets punished for his actions (unless you consider Scrat chasing him at the end of "Nut the End" as a kind of comeuppance), making him a minor Karma Houdini.
    • Even Scrat can get unlikable at some points, like in "Teeder Toddler, where instead of saving Baby Scrat from falling over a cliff, he chooses to save the acorn and leave Baby Scrat to his doom instead. But at least he always gets his comeuppance for being mean to Baby Scrat.
  2. There's a gross-out scene where Scrat puts a diaper on Baby Scrat and Baby Scrat takes it off and pees on Scrat.
  3. Despite the fact that it is a spin-off, it's hard to tell if this miniseries takes place after Ice Age: Collision Course or Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
