If You Can't Take The Heat... is the 10th episode of Total Drama Island
Plot
The teams compete in a cooking challenge to score points. However, Beth curses the whole Gophers team using the idol, costing their lives to grow even more bad luck. Meanwhile, Harold gets tortured by DJ, Geoff, and Duncan's antics by making a prank.
Why It Cannot Take The Heat
- This is the Screaming Gophers' absolute worst performance due to Beth cursing the team using the Tiki Idol she brought in Boney Island.
- This is a Harold torture episode as he gets pranked by Duncan, DJ, and Geoff for his disgusting antics.
- Granted, both Duncan and Geoff act like this to Harold because of their stereotypical behaviors, while DJ's behavior is inexcusable since he has a kind-hearted personality.
- Each of his tortures are uncomfortable to watch:
- DJ spills a bucket of water to Harold just because of the latter's incident in the opening scene. This is cruel to Harold and makes DJ mean to him.
- When Harold wears a thong, the Bass members laugh at him.
- Harold finds his blue briefs on the bed, which is covered in hot sauce, but when he wears it, his crotch burns until he cools off into the water, thus calling DJ, Duncan, and Geoff idiots.
- He, in pajamas, eats a sandwich covered in briefs, proclaiming it to be gross.
- After Beth's elimination, Duncan, DJ, and Geoff transfer his bed into the dock so that everyone can see him naked, and he holds a bag of clothes so that he can change, proclaiming that he learned his lesson of his antics, despite being cruel to Harold.
- Not only him, but also a few members of the Screaming Gophers:
- Owen is tortured in this episode because when he find the ingredients for the dish, such as getting a basket of oranges, but ends up hitting the beehive or stepping on the garden rake.
- Heather gets tortured after losing her eyebrows from the flambe incident, as a result, she has to get her makeup from the Gophers' cabin to draw her eyebrows in the freezer, although this can be justified, considering Heather’s rudeness.
- Several members of the Screaming Gophers are unlikable:
- Heather is at her absolute worst here, to the point that her bossiness cranks up to 11. When she is stuck in the freezer, she throws a tantrum by telling the female members to destroy them, which is cruel and nasty to them.
- Owen is also unlikable as he ate the feast, especially the ribs, made by the Gophers, costing the challenge by giving it a few points compared to the Bass outstanding performance.
- While not Gopher members, DJ, Duncan, and Geoff are horribly unlikable for bullying Harold.
- There is an infamous scene where Owen throws a wooden tray of oranges on Trent's face, which is disturbing.
- Heather's close-up view of her drawn eyebrows is disturbing.
- Idiotic Move: Heather tells the female Gopher members to "flambe" the cake. In reality, flambe-ing the cake is not good and it would burn it as a result. This would explain why it got 1 point due to Heather's antics.
- When Chris tells the Bass about the reward, which is a 5-star Dinner Under the Stars, he does not show a picture or a explanation of it.
Cool Off Qualities
- The Killer Bass members, except DJ, Duncan, and Geoff, Chris, and Chef are likable characters.
- A few Screaming Gophers members such as Beth, Gwen, Leshawna, Lindsay and Trent are still likable in this episode.
- The opening scene is good, where Duncan does push-ups until he sees Harold's blue briefs on the carpet, thus kick-starting the plot.
- Heather gets her comeuppance by having her eyebrows burned (albeit accidentally) and being locked in the freezer.
- The scene where Courtney and Duncan made a tiny fight in the kitchen by putting cream is hilarious.
- Hilarious Ending: Despite being mean-spirited and cruel to Harold, the campers see him naked and Duncan tells him that he learned his lesson.
Trivia
- This episode's title refers to the phrase, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."
