Ink Lemonade is the second segment of the sixteenth episode of the eleventh season, and 231st overall episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. It aired on May 9th, 2018.
Summary
Patrick's lemonade stand is unsuccessful until he gets a secret ingredient from Squidward.
Why It StINKs
- It has a pretty bad concept, as Patrick repeatedly scares Squidward for his bodily fluid and literally feeds it to the Bikini Bottom townsfolk, which is gross and unhealthy.
- This episode barely has a narrative, and is instead a series of things that just happen on the screen with little to no cohesion, not helping is that some episodes after this would have this same issue, like "FUN-Believable" for an example.
- The beginning of the episode is extremely obnoxious, as Patrick literally screams with his megaphone along with other people all throughout the entire scene.
- This episode also rehashes "Nectar of the Odds", an episode of The Fairly OddParents, where Timmy takes advantage of Cosmo for the sake of lemonade because Cosmo's sweaty socks were made to make Timmy's lemonade taste better, but Timmy later regrets what he has done to Cosmo and apologizes to him in the end. The concept idea of it is gross on paper, but it is written in some clever way in practice. But here, "Ink Lemonade" as a whole doesn't work.
- Plot holes:
- How come the Bikini Bottom citizens didn't realize they were drinking Squidward's ink until he sprays his fluid all over them?
- How come SpongeBob wasn't affected by the fact Squidward's ink was his fluid?
- None of characters in this episode are likable nor use their brain:
- Patrick’s idiocy and obnoxiousness have gone up to 11.
- Squidward is a jerk to Patrick by throwing him junk while the latter just minds his own business, he didn’t watch Patrick for what he was doing before he (Squidward) does something, and lastly, he tried to profit from his own ink instead of seeking for help in spite of his pain that he received at the near end.
- Even SpongeBob joins in on Patrick’s tactics and doesn't call him out for his actions or try to stop him from taking advantage of Squidward, although it seems like he isn't quite aware that Patrick is exploiting Squidward for his ink or that the "black lemonade" is actually said ink, yet was aware that he made cookies with Patrick that contains spider eggs at the end of the episode.
- The Bikini Bottom townsfolk decide to beat up Squidward, despite the fact that Patrick fed them all the ink lemonade. This is just a fine example of victim blaming and more unnecessary Squidward torture.
- The "black lemonade" that was Squidward's ink doesn't even qualify as lemonade, it doesn't even look like lemonade at all but rather black organic juice instead of lemonade.
- The way Squidward sneezes out ink, or squeezes it out, is uncomfortable.
- Disturbing imagery in the episode, one of the examples is the inside of Patrick’s body, see gallery.
- Bad ending: The Bikini Bottom townsfolk finally realize what they’re being served and Squidward’s lemonade stand is in shambles and They go to Squidward's house and throw up there. SpongeBob and Patrick soon started feeding Squidward cookies and revealed that the cookies were made with spider eggs, causing Squidward to get both ink and hatched spiders coming out of his throat, while the last of his ink covering up the screen as the episode ends, Neither Patrick nor SpongeBob (though wasn't fully aware of the whole "black lemonade" business) learn from torturing Squidward.
- And why Squidward didn’t bother to ask them about ingredient before he eats, despite they obviously going to sell exotic product.
Redeeming Qualities
- Ironically enough, even with Patrick scaring the death out of Squidward for no good reason, funny moments can be found in the episode like the "I'm a haunted... tablecloth!" scene.
- This episode is logical that of course, octopuses do ink, just like in real life.
- Aside from the disturbing imagery throughout, the animation is nicely done as with the SpongeBob seasons, considering Bob Jaques (Animation Director for The Ren & Stimpy Show) was animation director in this episode.
- Patrick gets comeuppance after Squidward squirts ink on the customers, as everyone stops buying from him.
- Squidward also deserved his comeuppance for being a jerk to Patrick (at least for this episode), but due to he got punished more than he deserved, making this less excusable.
- The aforementioned disturbing imagery lacks the graphic detail that was seen heavily in past seasons.

Trivia
- It is rumored that both Rodger Bumpass (Squidward's voice actor) and Kaz (the episode's writer) disliked this episode due to its gross and disturbing content, with Kaz regretting writing it.
