Internet Archive is a library aimed at storing all kinds of media, based in San Francisco, USA. It was founded in 1996 by Brewster Kahle.
Why It's A Blast From The Past
- First of all, it is probably the largest library of games, movies, series, books, music and songs. You can put literally any file on this page.
- The design of the site is really nice and legible and even a novice user of this network should have no problem finding anything.
- They found an excuse to avoid copyright disputes by claiming they were posting the media for educational purposes.
- A lot of useful features that sometimes even allow you to use media without downloading:
- Like My Abandonware, this site has built-in emulators that can be used to play older DOS, NES, SNES, PSX games and older platforms.
- It also has the ability to play video and audio like YouTube without using YouTube itself.
- Also offers the function of reading books.
- You can also watch certain deleted videos from Youtube.
- And of course, Wayback Machine where you can save the old versions of the websites or simple pages.
- This site also initiated the hosting on which, of course, Abandonware is based.
- The download function on the site is very complex, you can request a torrent or just a RAR file or an ISO file.
Qualities Which Are History (But, In a Bad Way)
- Sometimes files are slow to download or games are slow to load in the emulator, especially those on the PSX.
- The Wayback Machine has some unarchived pages.
