Island Adventures is a short anime film exclusive to the Ryan's World YouTube channel, where it was released as a miniseries throughout early 2023.

Good Qualities

  1. Despite being a slightly under-performing cash-grab, it's well done, especially for a short film created to sell toys.
  2. The animation is awesome, being done by World Anime Networks in the Philippines and Graphinica in Japan, who also animated cutscenes for the Xenoblade Chronicles series of games.
  3. The pacing is consistent, and there is a surprising lack of filler.
  4. Despite the voice acting sounding low-quality, the film still has some decent music and sound effects.
  5. The characters are a lot more likable than usual, especially Ryan, Combo Panda, despite him being a punching-bag, Gus the Gator, Alpha Lexa and Peck.
  6. It has a well-done Japanese dub, which in fact has slightly better voice-acting, than in its original English version.

Bad Qualities

  1. The main problem with this miniseries is that it was created to sell toys, from the Ryan's World: Island Adventures sub-brand.
  2. While the animation is great, it can be quite stiff and choppy, although that's how most anime turn out. All of the characters, except for Gus and Peck, also look quite off-model and a bit creepy when compared to their original designs, but since they're being animated traditionally instead of Adobe Flash or Character Animator, this is also justified.
  3. The voice acting is rather low-quality, even when compared to the music and sound effects. It sounds muffled and quite loud, and also doesn't sync up well with the mouth movements in the animation, which is understandable, since it's an anime, produced mostly in Asia.
  4. Predictable "humor" and bare-bones writing, as usual, with anything related to Ryan's World.

Trivia

  • This is the third anime film from Ryan's World, releasing after Super Spy Ryan in 2020 and Arctic Adventures in 2022.
