It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Marge is the 21st and semifinal episode of the eleventh season of The Simpsons. Parker Posey guest stars as Becky.
Plot
When Otto's bride-to-be Becky forces Otto to choose between rock 'n' roll and her, Marge quickly finds herself playing hostess to a now-single Becky. But when Becky's attempt to earn her keep upstages Marge's own homemaking abilities, Marge quickly finds herself losing her mind.
Why It's a Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad Episode
- This could count as a torture episode for Marge Simpson.
- The first part of the episode with Otto and Becky feels pointless.
- Throughout the episode, Marge is claimed to be insane, yet viewers know she isn't.
- It turns out that Becky wasn't the one who cut the brakes. Homer did it. To be fair, it was an accident, but still.
- Speaking of which, this episode arguably started Homer's flanderization, as this was one of the first of many moments in the show where he shows his "jerkass" side.
- Bad Ending: Marge gets sniped by Homer with a tranquilizer, just so he doesn't have to do chores.
Redeeming Qualities
- There are some very memorable lines.
- "Usurper! Usurper! USURPER!!!"
- "Don't mess with me! I've got Jimmies!"
- "Shut up, Becky! There. I finally said it."
- "The law is powerless to help you."
- "Powerless to help you, not punish you."
- "This isn't over, Becky! I know where you live! MY HOUSE!"
- Marge disguising herself as a percussionist in a marching band... that's going to a mental hospital is funny.
- It is ALSO the mental hospital's marching band!
- In some ways, Marge did bring the torture on herself by taking bad advice from her sisters.
Reception
- Despite a 7.1 rating on IMDB, this episode is very controversial in the eyes of many long-time Simpsons viewers, and is the 7th worst episode according to NoHomers.
Trivia
- The episode title is a parody of the 1963 movie It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
- Two doctors from previous episodes appear in the episode:
- Dr. Zweig from "Fear of Flying".
- Dr. Foster from "Hurricane Neddy".
