It's a SpongeBob Christmas! is the 23rd episode of the eighth season, and the 175th episode overall, of the American animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants.

Plot

In this episode, Plankton turns everybody in Bikini Bottom naughty by feeding them his special Jerktonium fruitcakes, all in an effort to get his Christmas wish.

Why This Special Has Us Filled with Glee

  1. Thanks to Stoopid Buddy Studios, they helped make the animation smooth and fluid in stop-motion.
  2. The voice acting is still good.
  3. "I will trap Santa in my box, locked up like fort knox, and make him stop the clocks" is a memorable, funny and clever line. It also became a meme which is nice to see.
  4. The backgrounds are nice to look at.
  5. It's the first time we see SpongeBob in stop motion, as it is a huge step-up to the series.
  6. Some parts earn a giggle, chortle, or laugh.
  7. Most songs can be earworms, but all songs are catchy.
  8. The soundtrack is decent at best.
  9. Good Moral: Be thankful on Christmas and be grateful for the people you're with.
  10. The theme song is still great, catchy and good. It helps that the theme song and the lyrics were changed and rewritten to fit the plot of the special.
  11. Spongebob and along with other characters have fully recovered from flanderization starting with this episode and Season 9b, and since Squidward is somewhat likeable so he gets a pass for this one.
  12. The designs are decent. Like for example:
    • .The robot design of Spongebob is pretty good.
    • Despite Karen's flanderization, her design is still good.
  13. Overall, It ended the dark seasons of SpongeBob and season 8 on a high note in airing order.

Very Jerky Qualities

  1. Santa is a bit unlikeable, but he redeems himself later on in the episode.
  2. The special has some of it's hiccups.
  3. Plot hole: SpongeBob is not wearing a helmet in Sandy's treedome - when it was established in earlier episodes (and ones after this one) that SpongeBob runs out of air when not wearing a helmet in there.

Reception

It received a 7.2/10 on IMBD

Trivia

  • It is the only SpongeBob SquarePants episode to air first on a channel outside of Nickelodeon.
