"Jakovasaurs" is the fourth episode of Season Three, and the 35th overall episode of South Park. It first aired on June 16, 1999.
Plot
The boys discover a prehistoric creature called a Jakovasaur while camping at Stark's Pond.
Why It Should Be Destroyed by a Jakovasaur
- One of the main problems of this episode is the fact that there's a lot of cringe moments to the point where it's almost unwatchable due to how bad it gets, especially because of the Jakovasaurs that are some of the worst characters of the entire show.
- One of the most disgusting moments of the episode is where Jakov and Joon-Joon had babies, which is incredibly disturbing to see, even for South Park standards. In that specific scene, after Joon-Joon gives birth to her babies, she spewed out sperm. No, we are not joking!
- Cartman is also a worse character than usual since he wants to keep the Jakovasaurs, which is a bit out of character for him to doing so, since he easily gets annoyed. And this, of course, annoyed both his friends and the public.
- A lot of extremely annoying moments due to how bad the Jakovasaurs are. Even worse, they mostly involve them.
- The Jakovasaurs are horribly annoying characters and probably some of the worst characters of the entire show since as said before, they're obnoxious, cringey, and barely had any development at all. They're just here to annoy you if you even want to watch the episode. In fact, because of them, there aren't any funny moments in the episode, which is rare and unacceptable considering that South Park is always funny for the most part.
- Most of the episode centers around the Jakovasaurs and not the main characters, which makes it even worse for the fact that these characters are nothing more than annoying creatures.
- Due to how cringe this episode is, it's almost unwatchable, and this is especially true with the scene where the Jakovasaurs had babies. It's also probably the most annoying and cringe-worthy episode of the series.
- The episode's animation is very limited, even for the series' standards back then since the colors are washed out here.
- Tons of gross-out humor, even for South Park standards.
The Only Redeeming Quality
- Even though the Jakovasaurs are horribly unlikable, the designs of them are pretty cool to look at. In fact, you can tell that the storyboarders/animators had an absolute blast designing the designs.
Reception
The episode received very negative reviews by critics and fans of the show and is considered to be one of the worst episodes of the entire series. It is also one of the lowest rated episodes of the series, with a 6.4/10 on IMDb.
Trivia
- The Jakovasaurs are a parody of Gungans, which include Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
- The Jakovasaurs' species name is a portmanteau of "jack off", a sexual slang for masturbation, despite the creatures' lack of genitalia, and dinosaur.
