Jimmy Two-Shoes (also abbreviated as JTS; known as Jimmy Cool in most parts of Europe) is a Canadian animated television series that aired on Disney XD in the United States, Teletoon in Canada, Jetix in the United Kingdom (by August 19, 2009, re-branded as Disney XD), Nickelodeon in Latin America, & Cartoon Network internationally.
Summary
A series of bizarre events sends fun-loving teenager Jimmy Two-Shoes to Miseryville. True to its name, Miseryville is the nastiest town anywhere, and Jimmy finds that his fun-loving nature gets him into frequent trouble, particularly with the town's mayor, Lucius Heinous the Seventh.
Why It Isn't Miserable
- Astoundingly beautiful and bouncy flash animation, (all thanks to Mercury Filmworks and Toon Boom Harmony in first season!)
- The concept about a happy-go-lucky boy living in a gloomy town (which is heavily implied to be Hell) is cleverly creative and ironic.
- Likable characters, such as Jimmy, Beezy and Heloise.
- Lucius Heinous VII is an entertaining antagonist.
- Neat character designs.
- Great voice acting, especially from Cory Doran, Brian Froud (Harold from Total Drama) and Tabitha St. Germain (Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic).
- Funny and unique humor.
- It has great episodes such as:
- "Pop-sicles" (which, in Canadian broadcast order, started the series on a high note)
- "I Totally Shredded My Cheese" (which, in American broadcast order, started the series on a high note)
- "SpewTube" (which, in production order, started the series on a high note)
- "Better Sweater"
- "Slime, Slimier, Slimiest" (which ended the series on a high note)
- Catchy theme songs, even for both seasons.
- Awesome storylines such as an episode where Jimmy creates a popular phrase and then later gets bored of it.
- Despite what WIIM #8 says, "Slime, Slimier, Slimiest" was the perfect way to end the series! With Lucius actually being in jail.
Bad Qualities
- While the animation is good, it can look too over the place at times.
- Season 2, while decent, is the weakest season because the animation, while decent, isn't as good as the Toon Boom Harmony in the first season despite Mercury Filmworks still being used, which is understandable since Elliott Animation Inc. had just taken over for the second season.
- Since season 2, the characters got flanderized.
- Jimmy became more of an idiot.
- Heloise became a punching bag.
- Some bad episodes, like the infamous Big Drip episode.
- It got cancelled after only 2 seasons, which was a bit disappointing.
- Some gross-out or inappropriate humour.
Reception
Jimmy Two-Shoes generally received mixed-to-positive reviews, as it received a 5.8/10 rating on IMDb and got a 6.8/10 rating on TV.com. Jimmy Two-Shoes is one of many Canadian shows to eventually end up as one of the most forgotten, and indeed, underrated cartoons to date, as it lacks a large fanbase, and that it is still ignored by the cartoon community.
However, the series would end up falsely review-bombed on IMDb, with negative reviews mostly coming from those from the Kid vs. Kat fanbase, claiming that show to be better than Jimmy Two-Shoes and claiming this show to be one of the worst shows ever created, without explaining proper detail on the bad qualities of the show, as shown here.
Trivia
- Miseryville is based on Hell; if the original pilot is to be believed, this would've been made loud and clear.
- Despite being created in Canada, the show premiered first in the United States. A similar case happens to several other Canadian cartoons such as Spliced.
- It spawned the official YouTube Channel.
